Firstly how sad. I can only begin to imagine the pain for all involved including the HGV driver who will have to live with it also.
However some NIMBY word bingo in there. Words like “thundering” and petitions for HGV bans and so on. Now it’s been a long long time since I’ve been that way I don’t recall the road being as bad as described although I might have mixed memories.
Thoughts? Over reaction to a tragic accident? Or grounds to stop HGVs?

Let’s just ban all HGVs from every minor A road that will cure the problem they’ve already put a 7.5 t limit past that point to ludgershall just moves the traffic acrosss to tidworth
More like grounds to control your children
“Eloise hopped on her bike despite me telling her not to”
Terribly sad…but
“It was not travelling more than 12 miles per hour.” Let’s introduce a speed limit.
" a road fatality following a two-car crash in December 2020" let’s introduce a lorry ban.
“The recreation field was just a two-minute walk away from our house.” Sounds like a lovely place to live and push your bicycle to as you’re still learning, rather than on a road you know is used by HGVs.
But…“‘I to this day do not know how the collision happened.’” is that ever acceptable?
If the poor child collided with a wheel and particularly if it was not a front wheel then the chances of the drivers seeing her in time to avoid her are not good and especially if the lorry was only doing 12mph.
what a dreadful accident however, the lorry was not at fault, and if they introduce an HGV ban,i’m afraid the villagers will find with no lorries to slow them down, cars will come hammering through the village.

I wonder how they will get their new carpets, beds and washing machines?

you forgot the polo ponies and double decker buses to take the old folk to the shops.

Polo ponies on double decker buses, how do they cope with the stairs?
This may be a harsh point of view but it seems like the villagers are blaming trucks when they should actually be saying that the little girl was unable to control her bike and unsupervised as her mother didn’t seem to be able to control her . Much easier to blame the trucks rather than tell someone who lives a few doors down that they got it wrong .

Let’s get the facts here.
There is a lorry ban in CD on the A346 but not on the A338. I used to use this road a few years ago and when I started using it last December was shocked at the number of HGVs using it. Then it became bloody obvious. They were all Home Bargains going out of Amesbury to the M4/M5. So madam, your loss is understood but perhaps you should direct your ire at your local authority, Wiltshire for allowing construction of that depot in Amesbury.
The road is ruddy horrible, I hate it but the bit in question cannot be taken fast because you’ll take out your side on the stone wall of the church or any vehicle coming the other way. It is on an S-bend for starters.
Another anti-lorry story. I read it in the Torygraph last week and thought it atrocious reporting - emotional claptrap. And yes I know what it is like to lose someone at a very young age.
