Yesterday my ankle gave way whilst delivering floorboards to a 2nd floor flat.
Went to hospital and tendon has pulled a bit of bone away from foot!
Depo manager coming round today to fill in accident form.
But, whilst on the phone he kept on mentioning that the companies insurance doesnt cover us delivering on anything but first floor.
I’m not that bothered as it aint much of an injury and I’ll probably be back in a week/ten days or so.
I’ve never been told about this ground floor rule and its not in the drivers handbook they gave me.
What is my manager wittling on about?
Any views?
Thanks,
Mark
He is covering HIS back.
If this rule is in existence, it should have been pointed out to you.
If the company expects you to deliver to any address, but then finds a way of getting it’s insurance cheaper by having one that doesn’t cover the job you will be doing, then the company will have to pay, just as you would if you had cheap TPF&T car cover and then wrote your car off.
More worrying is the fact that, had you dropped something and injured another party whilst doing a job that your company is not insured for, well that could open a very messy and expensive can of worms.
I would think your company is breaking some law somewhere by expecting you to do something that it fails to insure you to do and would be very cautious when he comes round to see you.
Don’t sign anything other than a statement as to the facts of what you were doing at the time.
I would recommend a call to CAB promptly. Injuries like you explain can, unfortunately, be a weakness that you may have for the rest of your life so please don’t make light of it.
Hope this is not the case for you, but you should be aware so as to be too hasty in taking the rap your self.
God luck.

If that’s true, you might ask your manager why were you asked to do something for which you’re not insured
Below is a link to the the Health & Safety Executive’s website, which you can click and read. You could also download and print it, if you like. Please bear in mind that it’s written for “managers”

I’ve no idea, so perhaps he’ll explain it to you.
