initial CPC

Hi Guys,
Well have completed the hard part and passed both the theory and practical driving tests!!!

Now it would appear comes the complicated part…I understand that I cannot get a driving job without first passing my Initial CPC, however pretty much everywhere I have looked offers CPC training for company groups, I live in Hampshire and was wondering if anyone knew where I could book an indvidual CPC? As currently it looks like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place unable to get a job without the CPC but unable to take the CPC as I’m not going through an employer!

Any help would be greatfully appreciated

Many thanks in advance

you need a LGV training school for the initial DCPC so why did the school you used not deal with this ?

The initial is theory module 2 at theoory test centre and practical module 4 at practical test centre using a vehicle

What year did you pass your car test ?

I brought the course “second hand” from a friend who decided against taking the class 2. The DCPC wasn’t included in the package they provided which in all honesty looking at it now its quite naughty of them as they advertise that they will get you though your theory and test and then find you a job…which obviously isn’t the case! When I asked about the DCPC they advised it would cost an extra £300 and after failing my test the first time round the money I had saved for the DCPC was swallowed by the £400 re-test fee… Is it a case of possibly shopping around is there a possiblity of getting it for less that £300? Its so bloody stupid…£1000 for the course and still can’t get a job…Great!

Unfortunately car test passed in 2002

sounds like your course was done through a broker and not by going direct to a training school !!

Where in the UK are you ?

I think you might be right, If I had booked the course myself probably would have done a little more research but buying the course from a friend at £600 was too good an opportunity to miss. I’m in Hampshire

Zenith lgv training if they are still going is one place to get initial dcpc - 2 START LTD are another

I’ve just signed up to do full DCPC and ADR with Roadsafe in Southampton - their fees are reasonable and are on the ball.

Check out the website.

Must admit like ROG I’m a bit confused with your situation also.

I am not confused at all - I know exactly the situation that the OP is in

Your post refers to PERIODIC DCPC and not the INITIAL DCPC that the OP requires to get into the periodic system

Glad your not confused ROG but you did, like me, wonder why the school didn’t supply this.

Oh, forgot, am fully aware that the OP needs are different from mine, I was just commenting that I was happy to place my training with this Co.

they do supply it

so from the looks of it i can only take the dcpc from a driving school and that there are no other companys that offer it as trying to find the cheepest one is becoming a nightmear

Yes your module 4 needs to be done with a driving school because you need a vehicle of approved size and weight.

Btw. Cheapest isn’t always best.

The lgv initial cpc theory is done at the theory test centre so that can be done without any help from a school etc

The more expensive module 4 needs a lgv school for the training and testing in most cases

It is possible to hire (get hold of) a 4 tonne van which complies with DSA requirements and book the mod 4 test yourself but I would deffo not recommend doing so unless you have a ‘friend’ who knows what is going to be needed on the day and can train you beforehand

Sorry about the semantics.

Deal with and supply - you really like to split hairs.

Don’t you, ROG.

Hi Socketset,

Yes mate, Roadsafe are on the ball and I’d have no hesitation in recommending them for your ADR training.

Please give Keith my regards when you see him.

Mod 2 required reading = theory test material and the driving goods vehicles book as well as using common sense

For Mod 4 see the sticky near the top of the newbies forum and then click the Flair link
