Initial CPC giving me a headache

Morning

I passed my CE theory and practical test in November 2009. I am currently serving in the armed forces but due to leave later this year. I am in the process of trying to sort out my CPC and approached a training company. They informed me I would only have to complete module 2 and 4 of the initial CPC because I have already taken my theory and practical. Is this true? As I cannot find any information to support This online.

I passed my cat B December 2007

Cheers

That sounds about right. You will need to take these additional modules if you want to work commercially where the vehicle is used for hire or reward (any company that charges for the carriage of goods). Not sure if you’ve looked this up yet but Module 2 is a set of cased studies on a computer and are really easy and will be easier for you as you have the additional experience already. There are various scenarios and you have to answer a set of questions about the each scenario and they are pretty straight forward although some are about the paperwork that is needed when you go abroad so some study is recommended. Module 4 again is pretty simple. This is what my instructor called a feely feely test. The examiner will ask you ( with a your training vehicle at the test centre ) to demonstrate various things like, how do you check for criminality ( illegal immigrants or contraband etc) and so you check the vehicle physically, he will ask you do do a walk around check and so do your walk around check exactly as you are supposed to as if he wasn’t there BUT as you are doing it, tell him what you are doing, but make sure you actually do it - dont just tell him what you would do.

Because you passed your test when you did, you dont have any acquired rights that some of the guys had when they passed because they passed before this came into force ( so in theory they already had modules 1 and 3). Newbies like you and I need to have an initial qualification ie, the 4 moduls Theory and Hazard, CPC case Studies, Driving Test and Practical Demonstration test, then after that 35 hours training every 5 years just like every one else.

Hope that helps and hope I did’nt miss anything

Yeah thanks for reply. Really big help. So basically if I want to earn when I leave raf I need all 4 modules. I did explain this to him but he still wanted me to just complete the two modules.

Many thanks

They are correct - you need modules 2 and 4

You will get 5 years dcpc from the date of passing mod 4
During those first 5 years you need 35 hours of periodic dcpc to carry on for another 5 years from the end of the first 5 years
Passing modules 2 and 4 then the 35 hours quickly afterwards will get a DQC expiry dated almost 10 years

Yes you need all four modules BUT you have already have done Module 1 (theory/hazard perception) and Module 3 (the actual driving test) so just 2 and 4 left to do

Ok thanks for your comments. I just got it in my head that I would need to do an additional practical driving test. Il keep that video in mind for when I arrange my mod 4

Many thanks
