I can name 2 taxi drivers doing school contract work Mon to Fri then every weekend pulling for sainsbugs
Picture this. Your sleepy taxi friend ploughs into the back of a traffic jam in his big Orange truck on a Saturday. VOSA check his tacho and see he only drives weekends. It wouldn’t take long to find out he had another job in the week.
Holiday at her majesty’s pleasure would be his next drop.

There will be no proof of his activities through the week, so vosa would be ■■■■■■■ in the wind with that one!

I think you underestimate the authorities. If you hit the back of stationary traffic you’d be in trouble anyway but you’d be in even more trouble if you were running bent. It’s naive to think the authorities wouldn’t investigate further if they downloaded a card and saw only Saturday driving on there. They’d want to know what you’re doing in the week. On a regular roadside tug I agree you could probably get away with it but start hurting people and the police will get involved. Quick check of your bank statements will show income from other companies. You could work cash in hand and leave no trail at all but then they’ll want to know how you fund your lifestyle on your meagre 1 day per week wages, then you’ll get done for tax evasion on top.

Bottom line, the authorities are not fools.
And I don’t think you have a clue how the taxi industry works!
Taxi drivers work cash in hand, no requirement to keep records, no paper trails, only put enough in the bank to keep the tax man happy, fuel up with cash, throw most of the receipts away, yes they will have a lot to work on, not!

My uncle runs his own taxi firm, my dad drove (illegally) for him for years. I know exactly how the taxi business works and how they hide from the tax man thanks very much.
But, none of them have ever hurt anyone while illegally driving a truck so they’ve never been investigated. Hiding from the authorities when they’re not looking for you is the easy part. Staying hidden when they’re investigating you is where folk realise they’re not as smart as they thought they were.

Are you sure it’s not private hire firm? As a rule taxi drivers don’t work for firms. Just saying!

Why would you be sleepy on a Saturday just because you had driven a taxi Monday to Friday?
