Infringement dilemma!

You haven’t said whether you go across the water? In my mind that would have a huge bearing on what I did. Like most others agree, over here crack on and do a print out. Over there, park up early and get busy with the wet wipes.

Being stinky isn’t a road safety infringement, so I would imagine there are plenty of VOSA folk who’d just give you the citation for being 6 minutes over… You didn’t break the law to save a life after all.

I’d imagine they’d let you off if you were driving the med wagon with live organs in transit on board.

It could be a driver health and safety issue though! Is it acceptable to expect a driver to take a dump in a layby after being stuck in delays, when there are facilities 5 mins further up the road?

No UK only, I’ve done the print outs but not written an explanation on the back yet, don’t know yet to lie or tell the truth!
Not worried about VOSA over this, mainly because they are never likely to actually see this infringement in the next 6 months.

used to have a similar situation when on my way up to chapel en le frith. if i stopped on stafford services i was only on 3 hours 45 but from stoke up to leek there was no layby( to fit an artic in anyway) and once past leek going on to buxton theres only two or three stopping places, the first one being on 4 hours 29 minutes without hold ups. i know i,m precise but i done this run for two years every monday.

Any hold up in leek or someone in the layby meant onto the next at 4 hours 36mins. before anybody says park at stafford services it would mean i could,nt get back home in my remaining 4.5 +1 driving.

Not meaning to be pedantic here GBD, but why wouldn’t you be able to get home if you took your break at Stafford services? You’d still have your 9 or 10 hour drive left, you’d just have to put in an extra break. No law against too much break.

it depends on how much duty time you’ve left

I find it hard to believe in 4.30mins there is only 1 shower on your route. :frowning:

If you were pushed for time why didn’t you stop somewhere enroute for a shower then push on.

Here is why

weeto:
or stop in a layby knowing full well if you did you wouldn’t be able to stop again to due to time restraints, and end up not having a shower.

I got between bury and Ipswich when the 15 min warning flashed up running in to Felixstowe, and as has happened a few times I’ve stopped short and had the break before carrying on and try to get one on the way out, but it rarely happens due to delays on the terminal you either get stuck on there for the night or end up stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Thats a bit tricky, were you planning on the the Orwell, its the only for a long way to get a shower, I’m not sure if you can use the Risby showers if you’re not parking and if not its all the way up at Cambridge, and as you know alot can happen in 80 odd miles.

If i’d had hold ups between those 2 facilities then I’d just fess up, write what happened on the printout, and take my chances

That is the trouble with the bloody port, cant plan nothing :unamused:

Well obviously there is, but after Bury there isn’t, which is when I realised I may not make it.
And yes I was heading for Orwell, from were I started from its less than 4.20 mins.

6 minutes is indeed not much but my advice is to always do a print out for any infringements no matter how small. Its just good practice and VOSA do like to see them when stopped.

Load of dogs dangles that Luke.

I did it twice last week, 3 mins first time then 7 mins got stopped and told them.
No probs driver at least you told us.

So he’s limiting the place he can have a shower. Is there a glory hole in your particular shower.
What difference does it make were he has a shower. Ie run in to traffic, so stop at nearest show, hopefully by then traffic clear. Job done. Loaf used.

Fine so don’t do it. I never said its a legal requirement I said its good practise, which it is. And VOSA have asked me for printouts that explain infringements.

What bit of, already past Bury before realising I may not make Orwell, do you not understand?

how long do infringments last ?

They remain on your card until overwritten by more recent data. Depending on how much you drive (or more specifically, on how many changes of mode are recorded) this will probably be for several months.

weeto:
So, you depart with a fresh 4.5 hr drive period, and your planning to stop at a particular place for a shower which can normally be covered in less than 4hrs and 20 mins, but you get held up a couple of times en-route would you push on to the original destination which would put you on 4 hrs 36 mins or stop in a layby knowing full well if you did you wouldn’t be able to stop again to due to time restraints, and end up not having a shower.

This reminds me while I don’t want to sleep in a tin box every night, your struggling to get 1 shower a day and may get done for having that 1 shower,I work day sand have 1 before work,1 when I get home and 1 before I get in bed,I’d feel mankyhaving 1 a day, alright in the winter I guess you can get away with 1 a day at a push( I’d still want 1 before work and 1 when I get home, but mid-summer :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: ,good god no,this time of the year I’d want my 3 a day :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: ,

Blimey, another time mate, stop in the middle of Stowmarket walk upto the nearest house and ask to use their shower, because thats about as close as you will get to use the nearest shower on that route. Loaf used :sunglasses:

Obviously no householder is going to say yes :unamused: , so alternatively only go as far as the next public showers with parking for HGV’s, which I believe is the Orwell truckstop, oh thats what you did :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

You have 3 showers a day!! That’s mental. You’re not related to the bloke on here that poos only once a week are you??

I must admit I’d only print out if its a valid accuse for going over. I take the line that if I’ve dropped a bollock by going over as I’m only human then I’ll just hold my hand up & take the hit.

I suppose switch is right that you should do one for every over even if you just write “my bad” on it, least they can see your interested.
