I must say that I would be surprised if a 57-plate Pets at Home truck had covered 720,000km though, even double-shifted.
Yeah that does sound high, especialy if others are at sub 400000ks, but it could have run 7 days a week, though you’d think that fleet mileage would be evend out.
Just also noticed the load of FM’s they have for sale.
Some of them are ex DHL at Castleford, and one of them was re-cabbed after a roll, as I collected it from the repair shop at Trafford Park, but I can’t remember which one it was. Think it might have been MFA, as that has the lowest mileage on it which would be condusive to it being off the road for repair hence the lower mileage.
If I bought something like that, I would buy it factoring in the cost of an early clutch or turbo replacement, but I wouldn’t say a truck was knackered after 720,000km. The truck I drive now as an employee has done 1,218,000 km and I don’t have any problem with driving it, I have worried more about approaching VOSA checkpoints in trucks five years newer, I think it’s more about how you look after them.
Have a work with shuttlespanker he has had a few dealings with them.
From what i can gather the trucks are a higher mileage and not immaculate like say hanbury riverside but the prices reflect it.
you get a 6 week driveline warranty from Fleetex, but, make sure you ask them about it
also, if there are any bits wrong with it that can be swapped over from another one, they sometimes let you do that before you take delivery, such as, if the wing tops are all split and damaged, they will elt you change them for some better ones from the other trucks
i have bought 2 MAN’s from Fleetex, the XLX, i have had it 16 months now with no problems, so i have replaced the 05 plate SSC with another MAN XXL
Harry Monk:
It’s not bad at sub-£20k for a euro 5 motor although I guess it will be poverty-spec. It doesn’t seem to be fitted with a fridge for example, which is a pretty standard fitment these days I would have said.
Am I right in thinking Fleetex don’t offer any driveline warranty?
Stralis is the only truck i can think of that gives you a fridge as standard.

that depends on what fleet they come from
some fleets look after their kit better than others, as they understand that a better looked after vehicle will get a better resale value when they get rid
they had a lot of ex-Culina Merc 2544 megaspaces, most of which were a bit on the rough side, but, mostly little niggly things, like small dents and scratches on the outside, damaged panels and fabrics on the inside
they had a couple of EX DSV TGX XXL’s with some slight damage, as in cracked panels, ash tray lids and stuff
they do, however, have some tidy stuff, i fell lucky with the XLX which is ex Reed Boardall, and the recent purchase XXL which is ex Wyvern Cargo
You are right about the differing fleet standards. Ours have full Volvo service history but they are shagged. We get 05 plate hire motors in that have done less mileage and are in better condition than our 09 rigids. We kept our 04 fm12s until 2011 and they had done 1,250,000 before they went, they were fit for ■■■■ all by time we had finished.

it is not just the mileage and maintenance issue though, i am mainly talking about care and respect by the drivers, if they are a fleet truck, as in, different driver every day, then, generally, the truck doesn’t get looked after as much as if it had the same driver every day

Sorry, this is what I meant. Badges pulled off, switches pushed in or prised out. Radios damaged, ■■■■ all over the inside of the vehicle. Drivers not reporting defects because they don’t want to have to go to the workshop and know they won’t have the vehicle tomorrow. General lack of respect.
You would also need to factor in a re-spray to a different coulour.
They had a minter of a premium in a few months a go with about 220,000 clicks odd on it on an 08 I think for reasonable money, went like ■■■■■■ of a shovel though. Was from the same firm with them adr premiums I think, the comparable others had twice the milage on being advertised for the same price.
Weve had quite a few ex DSV MANXXLs from Fleetex, all 57 plate all sub 400000km all fairly well looked after barring a few very minor items like ashtray missing. Had them almost 12 months now with very little problems
