steelman1828:
Hi Chris…I’ve worked in the steelworks since I left school, but I remember driving past the coal tipper convoy on my way down the M1 on earlies at BSC Stainless at Tinsley ( laterly Avesta and Outokumpu).
I work for Corus ( formerly British Steel) now but drive for an agency on my days off.
I like driving but I don’t know whether I could do it full time.
I wouldn’t mind tankers but I think I might be a bit long in the tooth at 44 to start from scratch.
I think you’re in the best place mate, it might turn into Englands last bastion of culture. There will be about 50 million of us trying to get a ferry over there soon!

I’m a bit longer in t’tooth than you - 65 now so I wouldn’t let 44 stop me going for my ADR.Not much tanker work round your end though.
If I was back in UK I wouldn’t drive HGV’s again ;too much traffic nowadays and cab phones ringing. That’s why I went shunting 20 years ago.
I might try for a part-time job over here when I’ve sorted t’house out.The only drivers in a hurry over here are - you guessed it - tipper drivers.
Mind you they might not take a “dee-dah” on as they would need a translator
No neets out over here either.
I’ve found three more “dee-dahs” over here so I’m not lonely, trouble is one’s a Wednesdayite poor bugger .
