Does anybody have any info on GBA Swadlincote?,all I know about the job is it’s double manning, would like to know what they like to work for/wage etc.
I have seen some comments about them on here before, but can’t find it.
I would be grateful for any info.
Regards
From what I can gather when I enquired there you work for 21 days a time, money (at the time) was average, not necassarily double manned.

Thanks for the reply Ben9, I was told its double manning and a mate & myself going next week for interview so I thought we would try and get some info on them before we go.
Thanks again for the reply.
I don’t know if you have seen it, but they have a web site HERE
You might find something you don’t know about them there
Saw a couple of their guys a few weeks ago in Paal-Beringen waiting to load at TI-Automotive.
They were cooking a full English breakfast on the tailboard and offered me a slice of toast.
Most of the trucks seem to be 7,5 tonners, which would be rather cramped double-manned.

Your not wrong their KW,A bit pushed for space if it is for 7.5 tonners. They told me it was class 1 drivers they want,on there website it does say they have artics so I will have to see what they say when I go for interview next week.
Thanks for the reply’s.
regards
they got a small depot in Iver (near Slough) - have seen them a lots - MB Sprinters with double manning and few 7.5t & 18t trucks
They have got the complete range of vehicles from sprinter to artic.
Just don’t get your hopes up that they have any vacancies even though you are going for an interview though.
i worked for them.work 21 days take home £1,800 you can work more if you want.i was double manned but always in daf superspace cab though they did have a few cf,s. i worked out of newton ayecliffe depot but whatever depot you finnish at they give you a sprinter to go home
gba is just a glorified agency you stay out as long as you can because when you get home you could be sat there till they have a load for you
you only get paid whilst you are working so if you wait at home 3, 4, 5 days you are not earning
pay is not that good…£60 yes £60 a day taxable
£30 a night out, £10 meal allowance and after a month you get £10 bonus if your paperwork in order and your tachos are in order etc. so you earn £80 for a 21 hour shift if double manning. the planning staff are not up to much as they say will phone you back with your load details and you wait and you wait…get the picture
best of all you only get paid 21 days if you work over that they (save) keep them days for you so if you dont work 21 days they make your money up with what they owe you
if you need european experience or just passed your test give them a go otherwise stay clear
Thanks for the replys

Icky,
You was spot on about the money side of things, went for interview today, got offered a job but am going to stick with what I got at the moment. £70 a day (taxed) double manning 20+ shifts !!! I get more than that doing the job on my own, 9/10 hour driving park up have my time off start again. They also said when you have done your 21 days and you get home you are on call, if they ring you say at 10pm they expect you to go in,load & ship out.
They say they are after about 6 drivers,Best of luck to anybody that gives it a go
They want 6 drivers?, i too have worked for them in the past, they used to move phones around (as just about everyone knew at the time inc,the bloke at dover port, ticket booth, lol) it used to be good before the phone contracts kicked in, mostly single manned (some double manning) there were rumors that they paid more at certain depots than other’s, they won’t recognize any trade union’s we found that out , as we were considering organizing one, but the boss, apparently said that if we got a union involved he would close the company, lol, as someone already said if they have no work for you, and you are at home, no pay, unless you go in clean vehicles ect,(for basic pay) but you may well end up working from say 10am,till the following evening, as should a job come in,you will be chosen as you are in work already, and depending on were it’s going and if D-manned or not You could be on the road from say 5pm (when you would normally be going home), yes you do sometimes end up sitting around near the place that you tipped until they get a job,or tell you to run somewhere else and park up again,or worse still end up being weekended ,which they used to pay extra for but not now so iv’e heard(just because i no longer work there , don’t mean i dunno what’s happening, lol)
I was talking to a bloke today whom I worked with at Transalliance, he is on for GBA now, seemed happy enough and we were never killed with work at GBE. He can still wear his old company uniform with only a slight alteration too
He didn’t mention the money, but he did mention the work, double manned occasionally to Munich area, artics mainly.
I was with a couple of their drivers the other week on the Hungarian/Serbian border at Horgos. I was on my way to Kosovo and had problems with my paperwork ( I was there a total of 72 hours). The GBA drivers (double manned in a 7.5 tonner) were on their way to Montenegro ( why the hell they had gone the route they did god only knows) but they did say it was their first time down that way. I told them they would have been better going through Croatia and when they spoke to their boss he even admitted it was probably the better route.
They were telling me that THEY had to pay any tolls and expenses out of their money THEN claim it back when they got back to the UK. They were on £50 a day plus £35 night out money and £10 bonus and if there were any problems with delivery times they could loose the bonus for the whole trip not just for the day. One of the guys had been there 6 years so must have been happy with the work. They both seemed decent guys and we had a laugh and a beer whilst waiting for our paperwork, I dont know if they are on here but if you are you will remember me with the humanitarian aid truck and I am glad I was able to give you a few pointers in the right direction.
