What is deeply worrying now is that they are been taught to only indicators if other road are visible(pedestrians vehicles cyclists) and all this forms part of the Driving test. Easy to see now how indicators become non existant in their use.Where did you hear that from? As far as I am aware this is completely untrue. When doing some types of advanced courses they may use the fact that an indicator is not required if it does not benefit another road user but certainly not for a complete novice.
On the other side of the coin why do some use indicators when it is not necessary?
It’s true, I was told by a driving instructor / HGV driver on the CB during a discussion about the use of indicators.
Point 2, habit, it’s not hard to use an indicator so why not use it all the time, then you won’t NOT use it when required. Read above
On the other hand, why indicate if there’s no-one to indicate too? Which I think is the idea behind that.
However, I think it takes a bit of practice at driving before you can judge that properly, so instructors should teach correct use of the indicators and examiners should mark you down for not using them, as a minor. 6 repeated minors = major = fail, is it?
Simon you are quite correct what you say.A new driver has not got the ability or the experience to decide whether to indicate or not and should signal as in HC.
Slightly off subject we are on holiday at the moment in San Fransisco and have a hired car.
Drivers are so patient and considerate when it comes to pedestrians.
Nice to see.
