For the last couple of months, I’ve been pulling a lot of Tesco trailers. Most of them are fitted with LED lights and I’ve noticed that with some of them that the indicator tell-tale lights on the dash don’t work even though the indicators themselves are working perfectly. Is there a legal requirement for the tell-tales to work or are they just there as a driver aid?
My mate drives a 57plate Stralis, which has a bulb failure warning system on it.He says that quite often with these trailers it shows that the trailer indicator bulbs have failed, again the indicators are working fine.
Obviously it’s something to do with LED lamps drawing less current than standard lamps.
Was just wondering if it could mean a prohibition if stopped in a VOSA check.
ive towed an l.e.d trailer for 2 years, my unit tell tail works for the unit on the dash but trailer does not. its passed mot twice like this, unit mot and trailer mot.
so i cant see its a problem i wouldn’t worry about it
Legally when towing any trailer an audible or visual telltale is required, with leds the current drawn is very low so bulb warnings and/or telltales may not work as they should. For leds lamp units there are ballast packs which draw more amps correcting this.
Methinks you need to use some wd 40 on the electrical suzi and unit
When i read the title i thought someone had been grassing again
