Now that cyclists have been indoctrinated into believing they can do what they want and its not their fault if something goes wrong, its the turn of joggers.
Apparently a “do not cross” sign means you can still run across the road without looking properly and its not youre own fault if you get knocked down.
Ive always felt that if they changed it and made the pedestrian always to blame unless they were on a pedestrian crossing with a green man then pedestrian incidents would decrease dramatically.
As my dad said to me 30 odd years ago “No one ever got knocked down and killed crossing the road because they looked first”

Approaching a crossing, (even though lights are green) very restricted view, maybe you shouldn’t accelerate away as soon as your lane is clear but keep the speed down until the view opens up.
Not sure about the insurance companies opinion what a court would consider acceptable driving, just what I think an experienced driver should be doing.

Maybe
But with a restricted view, and with a do not cross light activated, maybe taking care and looking before running across the road might also be a good idea? If they had stopped and looked, theyd have seen the car. Personal responsibility should always trump “its ok, its someone else’s problem”
I personally am always wary of anyone doing what these clowns did and ready on the brake but my point is, do we really want to go down the route of letting people think its ok to run across the road without looking or taking care?
I know in this incident its almost a shared responsibility with both getting a share of the blame but it wont be long before that changes
Look how cyclists now behave since they were basically given a green light to do what they want and not to bother with their own safety and it became the drivers responsibility instead
Green cross code 101 is walk, dont run for starters
Reading the article may tell a tale. An LGV driver who admits to hating joggers and cyclists and is naturally cautious!(Just like most.
)
The joggers should have waited, no doubt but its possible the driver should have taken more caution towards them. We see a lot of drivers who show joggers and cyclists little respect and of course they show drivers little respect however they are the vulnerable parties and more care should be shown.
Here in Holland and many other countries I have visited pedestrians are shown far more respect and that’s the way it should be in my opinion.
A lot of drivers in the UK seem to think they own the road and have very little patience. Always in such a hurry.
as usual the predictable and repeated reply there,
however, roads are for vehicles and are not fit for purpose for bikes, horses, joggers, and they should be treated with the contempt they rightly deserve at every available opperchancity.
if your in the proximity of these anoraks and cabbages, then if you find one wearing earphones,or even better headphones, then it always brightens up my day whether sitting in traffic or driving past to just let them start crossing, then blast them to death with the horn.
if you can do this whilst looking in the other direction as if you are unaware of their presence when they kakk themself and are franticaly looking around to see how close to death they came then there is always an extra slice of self satisfaction.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
No Coronor’s court ever found at an inquest hearing
“The victim died because of their own stupid fault. I recommend at this hearing that life insurers refrain from paying out in this case, and that any claim for compensation be regarded as malicious”.
