Incident in Southampton DP WORLD 30.01

Hello guys.

Our vehicle was damaged by the crane driver while he was dropping container onto the trailer. Incident happened last Tuesday 30.01 around 5:10pm in Transfer in Transfer area 1 slot 14.
There was drivers in slot 13 &15 and and I’m looking the witness.

We have two different stories from the port and from our driver. I meant to believe our driver but we have to prove it as port refusing to pay for repair.
Please let me know if heard anything about it from your colleagues.
Port is refusing to provide any prove of they story and I can’t believe that cranes & transfer areas don’t have any CCTV

There not a big bill to pay ( around £1500) for repair but want to find out what happened there and if our driver saying truth to make them pay for repair.

I know it unlikely we will find those drivers who saw the incident but I would appreciate for any information and if you could share it with your colleagues who work in Southampton.

Thank you.

My mind’s as filthy as yours then.

Same procedure as an accident on the road, witnesses, names, company names, vehicle reg’s, should be noted about just after everyone has been checked for injurys and the authorities informed.

When you get either unloaded or loaded down there, you have to be out of your vehicle, and stood in front of it where the gantry driver can see you.

Can’t see how any damage could happen unless your driver or the gantry driver turned into one another when pulling off the pad.

Like you said, I can’t believe for one second that there isn’t any camera footage from the cranes or any cameras that might cover the pad area.

Rules say one thing, what happens in practice is another, only had to suffer one day there but noticed immediately that site rules are easily ignored.

If your driver was not stood in the circle then the gantry driver should not have dropped the box, gantry driver’s fault by their own rules.

Well what damage occurred??

Things happen on the quay all the time so if we knew what happened at least we could narrow it down and maybe find somebody that witnessed the incident or has had similar!!!

Yep knowing what happened would help, like box hitting cab, say 45’ container for instance.

I’m at DP World a lot on glory hole duties but didn’t witness this event sorry, might know the driver though…

In there all the time but wasn’t there then, cameras aren’t allowed in transfer area so they are putting you in a bit of a fix with demanding proof. What damage was caused and what was the company of drivers in slot 13 & 15? Would definitely help narrow them down.

What’s the risk of being banned from site if you push them about it though?

Get the feeling the OP won’t be back, but it’s a long shot if there’s any dashcam footage of driver standing at the front of the cab gesticulating wildy, or acting concerned.
I love a bit of wild gesticulation myself.

I see your point, actually looking back I was there then but I didn’t witness it!

If you feel the driver is telling the truth back him … he really should have no reason to lie to you … the port won’t offer up information … I would put it down to experience … pay the bill and write it off on taxes … maybe investments in cameras on the back and front of the cabs would give the proof in future.

Putting my HSE hat on for a second, was the incident worthy of a RIDDOR, what training does your driver have to cover these eventualities.

If the incident was serious enough, photo evidence should be available as well as witness reports and accident reporting paperwork from DP world.

In the real world however we just want to crack on.
One should always take time to cover their arse if in doubt.

Lack of OP involvement point to the driver being at fault and an attempt to obtain funds from the dock.
