robroy:
Just been hearing some of the potential candidates for the next Tory leader/PM.
The way I see it is that an esetntial qualification for this is that they MUST have been pro Brexit pre referendum, in order to take us forward in that spirit after the Country’s decision, … the obvious one being Boris.
If a pro Remain candidate gets in, it just makes a further farce of the whole situation.
It’s a bit like Alan Shearer becoming the manager of Sunderland, in a football analogy.
Depends if he wants a chance of winning something I suppose

SO… Among Tory voters then (from 2010 and/or 2015) - Who do you think should be the next PM?
Then let’s ask that question again of NON Tory voters for those two elections at least…
Who would have to be leader for you to vote Tory at an election later this year - rather than any other party you may have voted for last time?
For me it’s “I didn’t vote Tory in 2010 and 2015”
and
I’d prefer Boris as PM, May to stay put as Home Secretary, and Osbourne to be replaced by … I’d like Farage, but he’d have to be given a safe seat within a fortnight to make it work.
I can’t see a general election being called. There’s no precedent in recent memory for it, and it can be argued that it was a conservative manifesto pledge, and it’s been delivered. With the Labour Party in meltdown, there’s a good chance lib dems would win, and that means remain, that’s the last thing 17 million people want

A minibus with 8 yellow rosetted people it it - is in no danger of even being in the next government - let alone being it.
1970 - General Election unexpectedly won by Ted Heath, pushing anti-immigration Enoch Powell into the political wilderness…
1974 - General Election was a hung parliament - Heath refused to form a coalition with the Liberals though, and conceded to Wilson - totally unneccessarily. The Liberals got nearly 20% of the vote but won only 8 new seats…
1974 - Second general election the same year - Wilson wanted a mandate of his own, rather than continuing to run a “minority government”. He won.
1976 - Wilson suddenly resigns as PM - and his home secretary (Callaghan) rather than his chancellor (Healey) become the next PM after winning the leadership ballot. Healey’s epithet was “The best prime minister Labour never got”.
…
John Major resigned as PM in 1995 - fed up with being constantly badgered regarding a leadership contest. He stood in his own one thus brought about - and won it. Perhaps Corbyn could pull off something similar now?
Plenty of places where our politicians could have turned left - but turned right instead.
The future PM needs to be one thing to lead this country out of the EU - and quite another to win the next general election…
Boris’ comments so far would suggest he doesn’t feel very confident about “going to the country early” should he become PM. We’ll see!
I don’t share your confidence on the lib dems mate. Remainers will do anything to push the eu agenda, even suffering 5 years of a lib dem government. I don’t want to see the government take that chance

Let’s say if all the 48% of the electorate as we understand it - all vote Libdem…
They don’t actually have enough “wild unseeded” candidates in place, any more than UKIP do.
Labour and Tories who may have lost their seats at previous elections - might have a few of them make some kind of comeback, but I just can’t see it happening for people like Vince Cable, Danny Alexander, et al.
Besides - even if the Libdems were to win a shedload of new seats ahead of any election - the first thing they’d do is challenge Tim Farron to five minutes outside with two and a half glasses of lager and a family sized packet of crisps…
BBC not making it headline news though - so the bias continues in favour of remain by the looks of it…
Liars wouldn’t be able to lie anywhere near as much - if the biased media didn’t report those lies as “facts”
The FTSE100 isn’t the best indicator of a recovery, as it’s skewed by exchange rates, which while heading back in the right direction, are still suffering. It’s better to look at the FTSE250! This is also heading back in the right directing and unlike the BBC would like to report, the sky hasn’t fallen in!

Let’s hope it continues to recover…
It was always going to recover. We all knew there would be a short term shock, as nobody can predict the future. Like the British people, the markets adapt and survive. Anyone who thought the city would look like something from 28 days later by now, needs to keep their nose out of politics
Evil8Beezle:
Tough talk (more posturing) from the EU.
UK access to the EU’s single market requires freedom of movement.
All I’ve heard on the media is Remain voters desperate to stay in the Single Market. In order to do so we would have to accept Freedom of Movement. In that case wtf was the point of it all?! We cannot control our borders without curtailing Freedom of Movement.
All we need is a Free Trade Agreement without all the bureaucratic and banal regulations the EU loves. If we can’t have that then play hard ball for two years whilst Merkel has big business bashing her lug 'oles.
tommy t:
Why don’t they get it even now, what do they think the majority voted leave for ? No uncontrolled migration stick your single market up your junker
David Cameron says Britain “will not and should not” turn its back on Europe as it leaves the European Union." another fool
To be fair, they are stuck between a rock and a hard place!
They can’t start giving us special favours without others wanting them too.
As the moment they go there it will be, what EU?
As a non EU member state EU access to the UK market obviously requires reciprocal access to the EU market and full UK sovereignty in its relationship with EU states.Which obviously includes the issue of who and how many we choose let in across our borders regards work permits and residency status.
Or at least that would be the statement issued in return if we weren’t ruled by gutless EU quislings and appeasers.

What you’ve ‘actually’ heard is remain voters desperate to over turn the vote because they are ideologically opposed to the idea of the nation state and ideologically pre disposed to being a member of the Socialist based EU federation. The idea that a net importer of EU products needs to be scared of getting into a trade war with the EU is just total bs being used as cover to hide the above agenda.
