In need of advice about leyland t45's

Hi all first off im looking at getting a good old c reg leyland roadtrain or T45 the man how has it has offerd it to me for the price of scrap value has anyone got any idea what that is at the moment in the uk as i have been looking online and cant find anywhere to say its all the price of what it was last year? lol :unamused:

seconed is there anything i need to look for with this lorry IE bits that are well known to rot or need work?
the lorry is as i say a c reg roadtrain its the 4x2 unit and its the daycab ((but i think i will keep an eye out for a sleeper to replace that that is if i can find one)) it all looks realy good and tidy in the pics with only 2 or 3 bits of rust i can see but i havent ever spent anytime around leylands as when i was a kid my dad only drove DAF 2800 and a DAF 85 and i have only ever driven DAF’s 55/65/75 and Volvo’s FL10/FM9/FM10  so any advice on the Leylands would be grate
thanks all
Darren

BEWARE THE RUST BUG!
Apart from that, make sure the thing runs on all cylinders- if the seller is not keen for you to hook it up to a battery, it’s suspect. If & when it does fire up, make sure it goes into all the gears and that the diff isn’t seized. Most other things can be sorted, depending on the right price.

Hello Roadrunner,
The rot spots are usually rear quarter panels, door apartures, roof above the windscreen and some go on the passenger floor pan. Engine wise, if its a Rolls, thermostat/waterpump can be troublesome leading to a cooked lump. If its a 14litre â– â– â– â– â– â– â– â–  it will probably be fairly sound if its been half looked after by previous owners, bad crank wear will be a tell-tale sign of irregular services. If the Roadtrain is UK-spec it will probably have a spicer box, but if in Oz or NZ it may well have been fitted with a Fuller, hopefully it will be the later, as the Spicer it a notchy bXXXXXX! If the rear axle is an Albion unit, Ditch it, slip a Rockwell underneath.

Regards, Chris.

thanks guys if i remember right its got a 265 rolls engine in it
am i right in thinking a sleeper cab would fit right onto the cab mounts of the day/rest cab?

I will have a look at weekend to what’s there

Hello roadrunner , Im not sure a sleeper cab will fit on to a day cab chassis , check your wheelbase first you might find if it does fit the back of the cab will be to close to the trailer when coupled up, we had an f7 sleeper conversion added to the fleet and it couldn’t pull half the trailers we had due to this problem, our transport manager was red faced when they discovered the problem, happy hunting.

hiya…I think kevin dennis has some new army sleeper cabs. maybe easier to start with a decent one you can spend a fortune welding
