Today was my first day driving an artic and first day in an auto truck ( with clutch pedal so a bit strange )
I made lots of mistakes like taking wrong turnings and my first artic reverse was back out of a narrow road taken in error. Far scarier than taking my tests! I kept my cool and just told myself that if it went in it will go out again.
On the plus side I made all my drops and didn’t hit anything, like a knob I left my digicard in the tacho so will have to go back Monday to pick it up.
Getting paid to drive a truck is so much better than paying someone else for the privilege!
Thats the first step taken, its a long marathon…Enjoy and take care.
Dont worry about the card left in the tacho as if it was left on the bed rest mode it shows your time off and if left on the crossed hammer other work mode just do a print out and write left in wrong modr and hope nobody got in to drive it and took your card out.
That’s how I imagine my first day will be, whenever that comes
, not hitting anything is the main thing!
Good that you sorted yourself out when it didn’t go to plan. That’s half the art of truck driving. (The other half is not getting it wrong in the first place LOL!)
Do a printout when you retrieve you digicard as my guess is that you didn’t put it on “rest” when you left it. So it will have recorded the whole weekend as “other work”. It’s obvious to anyone what’s happened but you must do a printout and write the explanation on the reverse and sign it.
Don’t get upset by this error; you wont go to prison for it! We all make mistakes and being a newbie is a fair excuse.
Keep up the good work, Pete

I agree.
Well done on staying calm and getting the job done without being rushed into causing any damage etc. It doesn’t matter how experienced you get, you will still find yourself going down roads you don’t need as nobody knows every road, street and company out there and you can’t (and shouldn’t!) rely 100% on SatNavs.
Well done on getting the job done unscathed.
Don’t worry. The tacho card isn’t a big issue. It’ll show as an infringement but can be easily explained away.
Thanks for the comments, the tacho will be on other work so I just need to figure out how to do a print out. I phoned the duty manager and will collect my card tomorrow.
Go in to menu then to printout driver one then press the date you want then write on back left card in wrong mode then do again for the next day and keep them for 28 Days.
