Importing from republic of Ireland

Hi all,
are there any issues (bear traps) in importing vehicle in to England and then registering onto UK plates. Any one been there done that?
Also is there an Irish HPI check i could use

Thanks Danman

easypeasy so long as your prepared to go through the gov website pish. just make sure you get the logbook from eire…you also need a bill of sale.if its private sale, then you just need a bit of paper…its open to using your initiative for registering the correct details.if you buy from a garage, then bin the invoice and just pick a barney o shamrock name and address ,put down a lower price…digitally correct the miles up a hundred thousand or so in case they want to inspect it if its worth a lot of money,(which is unlikely unless you really kick the ■■■ out of it) then mot it using the vin number only which is quite acceptable.write your invoice for the lower price to suit the miles showing, then in a couple of months time from now,itl be winter, and the clocks go back…you just have to register on the customs website, get a ref number, fill in the car details price who you bought it from etc, wait for up to 2 days till they log it into the system, you can already have had it motd on the vin no anytime you like, then apply for the reg number when you tax it,you will get a number from dvla stating the reg which you use to get your plates,9 use ebay to order the lates made so you don’t need to show logbooks or driving licences etc,and happy days.if your doing another one,use your wife, granny, pal, someone elses name so you don’t get flaged up for dealing in cars.in theory, you meant to apply to do this within 48 hours of bringing it into the country.in reality, you can get away with using it on paddy plates for ages till it suits you.your paddy mot is worthless for the uk,so you can always mot it on the vin, then run it through the cameras with no greif.(always best to use a dummy name and pay cash when buying it from eire, then the worlds your lobster) obviously only someone using their initiative would condone such naughtiness, but there you go?
if the car has previously been reg in uk before being reg in eire, then its more than likely that its had a haircut entering paddyland anyway,or more likely whacked and repaired.just watch all the transporters on every ferry taking across whacked vcar jobs.the eire miles are extremely hard on cars compared to uk miles so they tend to be a lot rougher for comparable miles. happy days all round…
bear in mind that your average paddy selling a car will be of similar ilk to their similar named equivelant in the uk…i.e they couldn’t tell the truth if there was a rope round their neck especially if your unfortunate or daft enough to be buying t from a macodougall(their name should give you that info) and they tend to have rose tinted specs on as to the condition especially if its an older vehicle.ive done a few into the north, and for every one ive went to buy, then its 1 out of 10 that’s worth buying.if it helps, its possible to have them shipped as unaccompanied runners where you just book them on,get a reference number, someone delivers it to the docks, and you lift it on the other side.

Cheers dd, very comprehensive

Just don’t buy ANYTHING from a fella named
“Jon Joe”!!!

Also check out the VRT payback scheme operated by the Irish gov, they actually pay you to export a s/h car, the amount depends on the age and mileage, the younger the more they give you and it can run into a couple of grand if your buying something like an Audi or BMW.
