IMPORTANT- Photocard driving licence - 10 year photo renewal

waynedl:
My photo’s due to be changed …Is there any way to get round it,

NOPE

How to keep current licence when applying for photograph renewal

Another thing I would recommend is that when you send your licence off to be updated, send it ‘special’ or ‘recorded’ delivery. Something that they sign for and is next day because it is all too easy for them to ‘lose’ it :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: Even if they haven’t really lost it :unamused:

For anyone still to renew their photo, use the post office service, they check your documents, give you a receipt you can still drive on, and also take your picture in a dedicated booth, you sign the photo and the declaration using their staff as a witness, all for £4.50 plus the DVLA renewal fee.

Hi Malc,

I received the dreaded reminder. :frowning: :smiling_imp:
:bulb: Just to be on the safe side (we’re talking DVLA here, so anything can happen  ) I took the precaution of scanning my paper counterpart and both sides of my plastic photocard, which are now safely stored on a separate memory stick.

The reminder form is very easy to fill in, so having completed that, I went to the Post Office.

I used their service and had my mugshot done, and all for the princely sum of £4.50, which TBF isn’t expensive for the hassle it removes.
I doubt my opinion of the £20 licence fee payable to DVLA would pass the auto censor, so I’ll leave that out. :grimacing:

Here’s what you get for your money, but the good thing is that the reference number (between the little orange highlights I’ve added to the pic) allows you to carry on driving whilst the licence is away.

The nice lady told me that I should have my updated licence within a fortnight, so I’ll update this post as and when it arrives.

Here’s the promised update…

My driving licence arrived today, and all category entitlements are exactly as they should be.

So, the latest DVLA renewal of photocard licence stats are:

Forms filled-in, mugshot done and the whole lot went in the evening post on 25/05/2011.

Licence arrived in the morning post on 31/05/2011.

We all knock DVLA from time to time, but the above is posted in an ‘I speak as I find’ kind of way.
