So, I’m down towards the bottom of the M5 today and figured rather than bothering with sandwiches today I’ll use the supplies I have in my overnight bag and then load some fresh stuff in there when I’m home from work. Also have a coffee too, as I’m sat here waiting an hour to get unloaded.
The drop was tight, I’m in a MAN 18t, a 61 plate with unholy poor steering and an autobox. Great. But after numerous tries and a banksman to protect the expensive cars I got into the drop. Synchronised manoeuvring with the forkie as he was in a tight alley with minimal left/right only forwards backwards…
I don’t think I’ve driven in anywhere as tight before and to top it, it was a timed delivery which I hadn’t been told about until the boss rang me up to ask my ETA. He rang whilst I was chatting to site foreman, and I was about to run out of driving time. Stopped for my break after 4h 23m and the last 30m of driving just manoeuvring…
So. On break, got me stove out, tea, coffee, milk and that pasta based thingy that needed hot water and… ahh.
Kettle, along with the small pan used for heating other things. Not here.

Sandwiches again I guess
cos it’s certainly NOT in my overnight bag where it should be…
Guess YOU must have taken kettle/pan out of your bag

Yeah, picked up a 12/24v 400ml kettle at Taunton Services M5 this evening and now I’m parked up, out of time, 45 minutes from base. This is when the boss promised I’d be home for 6pm…

Never trust a boss who says they’ll get you home if you just do this quick run
.
You should have got through all the flavours of pot noodle by September
“Two drops in Exeter” he said. What he didn’t say was the second drop was halfway out on the A377 to Barnstaple then taking a left over some railway tracks up into the hills
I had thought of PM’ing you at the services but figured you were off roaming the country somewhere, and I didn’t have your mobile number Dean
Anyway. Not sure the boss will like me anyway when I tell him I’ve cracked the bumper on this hire wagon
I’m in Leicester Forest East services for the night mate. If I was home I’d have sorted you a coffee or similar.
Oh and as for the cracked bumper, welcome to the clan of imperfect drivers. Dare I ask how?
Well, I’ve just written the report but basically I was on a narrow country lane, tucked in for a car to pass, a 4x4 with trailer and the driver didnt want reverse. Just enough room to squeeze past and there was an S bend behind I wasn’t going to reverse back around. Especially without ESP, a banksman or a camera!
Must have caught something in the ditch, because when I stopped for a 15 over near the A30 the damage was apparent. By which time my attitude was starting to reflect my employment and timings situation, ie agency driver fed [zb] to get the job done and [zb] his plans…
