Immingham free parking

Dose anyone have any info on why the free parking in Immingham is being closed on the 2nd Jan 2013 for 6 wks? I have heard some facilities are to be built & it will no longer be free to park. I have no problem with this happening as hopefully the place will get cleaned up & perhaps some english speaking lads to go for a pint with.

I used to stop there all the time, my parents live in Cleethorpes though, so used to ring my dad to pick me up and take me out for a carvery :grimacing:

I used to park there o/nightregularly, spent a lot of time waiting for ferries etc., I used to go in The County Hotel, and when the World cup was in Far East, 2002 or 04■■ and the matches were 6am kick offs, they put on free breakfasts for truckers, some of the lads had a pint with it :open_mouth: , I remember thinking then it was a wonder the local residents were happy with the park…, you know, the usual stars who left rubbish and crap strewn over it, and the size of the rats were unbelievable. If what you say is true a clean up may be a good thing, at least it aint shutting permanently, and as long as the price is reasonable fair play to them.

But there’s paid parking just down the road, that one was free which was a good thing IMHO.

I never left rubbish or turds or anything. Should be kept free.

Another park, unit only, was The Cross Keys pub park, left at r/about for Killingholme ferry, 200yds on right, good pint, good meal, friendly landlords Alan & Jan, are they still there anybody know??

Seems there’s a planning apllication in from the County Hotel to put a porta cabin with toliets etc. & cctv at the lorry park so perhaps this is what’s taking place from 3rd Jan. Sort of answered my own question, but thanks lads & a Happy & safe New Year to you all.

Yea the park has been brought by the owner of the County pub… Hes putting showers and toilets etc in (like you said) tidying it all up (looks a lot better already)
Wont be free tho. £10 a night with a meal voucher for the County pub (decent bit of grub in there apparently)

I’ve heard from a local it’s closed for resurfacing as well as installing the shower and toilet block.

Its true that the county hotel have bought the land and yes its being resurfaced. Toilets will be put on site but I doubt showres as the county hotel just around the corner provide showers for drivers there. I heard it was going to be £15 to park with meal voucher and free shower. I was parked in Immingham on Thursday night and it was chaos trying to find somewhere and that was at 6pm…

Its always being free until now because the land was owned by Lord Yarborough and despite numerous offeres over the years, he refused to sell the land for commercial development and insisted on keeping it as a free parking area for trucks. Given that this is the only parking area of any size in the area and how big a port Immingham/Killingholme is all that will happen now is that several dozen trucks will be forced to cram on to industrial estates with no facilities at all. Lets face it, the majority of trucks that park in there are either PL/LT trucks or British trucks from small companies doing ferry trailers and they’re just the sort of companies who dont pay for parking anyway and those drivers will now have no choice but to slum it on Stallingborough industrial estate or one of the others in the area. How this can be good news when an ever increasing amount of companies refuse to pay for parking is beyond me.

As for the Cross Keys. I doubt theres much chance of parking in there these days as several years back the car park was drastically cut in size when it was sold off to build houses on. The current car park is big enough for several cars but doubt you’d get many units on there, if you’d even be allowed.

I passed the truckstops at ulceby this morning, and it was rammed with polacs ect,
That are usually camped at Immingham lorry park.
Oh dear me,the boss will have to pay out.
Still, the drivers will have access to a flushing toilet and a shower.

3 cheers for lord Yarborough! Guess Walter koops will have to find a new cabotage operating site.

There’s decent lay by’s every mile for about 10 miles in to immingham anyway so there shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

+1 I work round the corner and the morning it closed (first time id ever seen it empty) the ammount of ■■■■ in the corner were they all park was ridiculous!
