…(I hope the mods allow this) A smart 54 reg Iveco Cargo 4w tipper (with one of those tarmac/gravel spreading attachments on) came into our pit this morning for some shingle. I looked at them and thought “(banned P-word)” and as I couldn’t get in touch with weighbridge via radio, I had to ask the driver what he wanted. “I can take 9.70 drive, but no more than 9.5 as I don’t want to go over my gross.”
I was very surprised by this travellers’ attitude, and after loading him (one of the obligatory passengers got out and climbed on the load and sheeted it the old fashioned way) the driver wanted to know an alternative route to Bicester as the A40 was busy (bound for Birmingham). Driver asked if the way I told him had any weight limits too All I can say is I’m amazed with this blokes’ attitude, better than many “professional” drivers.

Just goes to show you can’t tar them all with the same brush. Or should that be tarmac your driveway with the same brush.
More like his gross was 7.5ton and he didnt want to use the A40 as there was a mobile check point set up.

These chaps did look to be of proper gypsy origins. Paid in a wad of notes which were all real.
There’s a crowd based in a proper local site that do the same work, and they’ve got 2x Poles working for them. They’re alright to.
