jb.
what about after the meal.
una caffe cognac/armaretto per favor.
after the dinner its normally off to the bar for the coffee cognacs,i could never stand the armaretto.
one of my first trips,i was with a mate■■?/
he told me,for everyone of these i drank,i would get a 100 kms of night driving done.
i was young and inexperienced.
drank a load of coffee cognacs, tried to go down the road.i got less than a kilometer and into the first layby and crashed out for the night.
before anyone attacks me about drink driving, this was back in 1978.
the last thing on our minds in those days was worrying about drink driving laws.
we just worried about getting enough drink down our greedy guts.

i don’t know yet harry i will go to the yard sunday and sort me cab out and get my cmrs and address i’m not going on my own there are two trucks going the same place me and one of our drivers who will show me the ropes its like being back at school lol . i just don’t want to mess up i’d like to do euro work full time so i’ll find out next week if i got what it takes  :sunglasses:

That’s a good way to do a first trip and I reckon when you get back you will think “I could do another one of them, on my own”.

Your first trip is always a little daunting but the moment you drive off of the boat the butterflies have gone and you just get on with it.

how is life with teresa brian.
you must have grown kids now?
you enjoying italy?

greg
bet you wont remember me.

I have found that, it is scarier listening to the stories than getting stuck into it. After 3 or 4 trips you will wonder what the fuss was about.

The more you know, the harder it gets

limeyphil:
If the mafia stop you, just go along with whatever they tell you and they won’t shoot you.
Well not on purpose anyway.

I wouldn’t want to unneccessarily worry lug84, but that is very good advice.

its alot easier now, with no customs and sat navs etc.
so he will have a lot of advantages we never had.
but dont worry as the guys are saying, after a few tips you will wonder what you were worried about.
italy is a piece of p and the best country in europe to run…they are good people…dont mind people calling them ignorant.
they are not.
they are helpful, but bad at english…so if you intend doing a lot of italy…get learning the lingo.i am not fluent, but i can converse to some extent…it makes life easy.

now if i could improve the english

I agree greg. I found the italians a helpful people in general.
There were some right tossers in some of the groupage houses but you get that in any country… mainly in england!
There not that helpful with a wheel in there hands either    mad!

if they have guns then thats it mate they can have the whole truck i not getting shot for no one :open_mouth:

Yebbut even us coffin-dodgers can still remember the Adrenaline kick of our first Italy…

remember if an italian car flashes you he means hes coming through NOT letting you out.

If you pull out he’ll probably be going too fast to stop anyway.

sure thing jb.
the warehouse staff in some of the places were ignorant,i would think this came from having problems with drivers…then stereotyping the driver as a load of zbs.
the other prob was the customs, they wre a crowd of…thankfully no mkmore for the like of us…finally the police/carabieiri.
the police were easy to deal with, but the others for me were always a problem.
but the people in general especially if you had kids with you as i always had one or the other of mine.
great and lovely people.
i remember once loading toys in a factory,i think around verona,i had my son with me,they gave him a toy gun.
this was in the mid 80s when the political situation was not good in ireland.
this gun looked real and my son loved it.
i had visions of 10 yrs in the slammer for carrying firearms.
my son wouldnt let it out of his hand.
i eventually got it and took it apart, got through dover no prob and reassembled it for him.
the memories…

you would have more probs with guns in kent on a saturday night…dont worry about italy…like the uk…if you are carring a high value load, dont park in the middle of nowhere on your own.
just treat it like home,it no mare dangerous, but a lot more fun.
if you dont like the job…pm me and il have it.
hope you like wine.

Yeah, don’t worry about the Mafia, the scariest thing about your first trip to Italy is going over the Ski Jump in France. Even after 22 years, my bum still goes like a cod’s mouth the moment I put my front wheels onto it.

i love wine and beer but not to much and none if i’m on a early start :sunglasses:
its not worth my driving licence and like i said it my dream to do euro driving so i’m gonna give it my best shot  greg50
as for a job i’ll let you know if they need anyone its uk as well just so you know

you do suprise me harry.
i would have thought a man of you experience would be so used to it at this stage of you driving life.
i was at first myself…remember when it was the road on the side if the mountain and it was two way.
then they built the ski slope…that was luxury after the old road.
it doesnt bither me now,i fly down, not up of course.

dont think you need to worry about dd in italy lug…i could be wrong.
in my day it never mattered.
it could be changed by now of course.
.but watch it in france and spain.
they are sh hot any time of the day or night.

greg50:

The Ski Jump is the only place in France where traffic drives on the left…

Opposite, on the way back is “The Wall of Death” but the OP shouldn’t worry too much about that at this point…we don’t want to spoil his weekend, do we?

Your first trip is always a little daunting but the moment you drive off of the boat the butterflies have gone and you just get on with it.

thats a fact, just one " k " down the road the your instinct will kick in and you will get on with it.

just remember you are a lorry driver and not a numpty if stuck get out and ask.

toowise:

But sometimes a car flashing you doesnt mean that at all :stuck_out_tongue:
