Like it says , I’m getting a jimny , its an 03 plate , one owner , low milage bog standard , its being given to me free from the father in law, I was thinking of matnw a selling or trading it in at first but having read up on them I’m going to keep it , its only going to be used mainly for running back & for to work which is mainly on the back roads …
Has anyone got one or had one , what are they like ?
From an offroad point of view, they could upset a Defender 90 if driven right.
Not sure about owning one as I never did. But a set off All Terrains, cut a bit of the front bumper off and drive like a madman and you can have a real laugh in the mud.
I do/did a lot of off roading and my mate had a Jimny that was tricked up and embarrassed many more modified and expensive 4x4’s
He used it as a learner car for off road users, did quiet well.
Even kids over 12 years old could drive on private land insured and a certificate lol .
I have sold my current car but if I could not afford a 4.2 land cruiser I wild get me a little 1.6 Jimny in a heart beat
Never owned a jimny but I had an SJ and it was great off-road - crap on the road.
We got it stuck on a boulder once, went over it with the front off-side wheel, but then it wedged between the wheel and the side step. So me and my mate lifted the front of the car and pushed it back off the boulder.
Try that with a Landy.
Oh, I got rid of it and got a Landy 88" Series III
I have one on a W plate never had a bit of trouble with it, reliable and more than capable offroad. I have had it in places where my Landy couldnt go, and on standard Bridgestone Dueller All terrains! After owning five Land Rovers in the past, I doubt if i would swap it. Cheap to run, Tax, insure and not too bad on fuel for a 1.3. The tank is small and goes down quite quick so it gives the impression of being thirsty.
The ride on the road is bloody awful, but you get used to it
hired a 1999 jimny in ibiza last year. tough as old boots, and we were shocked what it could do off road. i even looked into getting one here when i got back. great fun, enjoy
nick2008:
Hired one in Cyprus went back roading through the countryside , lovely motor.
You didn’t hire it from a small place along the main road in Protaras did you? We hired one from there and had no problems, albeit over only four days. Like Nick, we took it up to the mountains as far as the border allowed, no issues at all
