LAST NIGHT I STARTED WORK …well this is what happened…
as i do agency work i was booked in at a place local to me every night this week and i would get 10 paid hrs a night… good im pleased.
then
phone call can i do an adr job as mine has been cancelled i get to the job and its been changed and its only 8 hrs paid a run down to newport shorpshire change trailers and back. work 7 hrs get paid 8.
so im leaving the yard fed up ready for belting down the rd to get back as quick as possible when a car coming towards me is overtaking another car when i pass the parked car i see its a women trying to change the wheel well she was struggling to get the hub cap off with a flat wheel… and i drove past.
the thing is 99 times out of 100 i would have stopped but at the time my mind was on other things and didnt registrar what i had seen till 500yards later so then i would have struggled to turn round to get back and then once helped out i would have struggled to turn round and get back in the right direction again.
so i drove on.

Well, at least you thought about it…most men would not bother these days…I’ve stopped to help hopeless looking male car drivers and they are usually too suprised to object!
Changing a wheel should be part of the driving test, for both sexes.
No one jumps to help me when something goes wrong with the wagon I might add ha ha! but I have noticed recently less male truckers say "if you can’t sort it you shoulden’t be doing a mans job "
(Have you ever seen those same men at truckstops trying to make a washing machine work …PLease)

I couldn’t agree more. It would save the breakdown services a lot of time so they can help out real stranded motorists.
Jessica’s Dad;
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Like Danebabe said, at least you thought about it. You have helped people in the past and will no doubt help people again. It’s just a one off.
What’s a washing machine
something that would have you totally confused

I was confused when washing machine was mentioned.

A woman
What’s one of them

I think its a technical term for woman also known as wench
Is that not a spanner

As someone has said Jess’s Dad, at least you thought of it.
Welcome to Trucknet Danebabe.
I think it would have been a bad idea to stop in this politically correct world you could have been accused of being sexist or something similar in this day and age its best to avoid situations like that.
Only my opinion on the subject dont have a go at me!!!.
It amazes me the amount of people on the side of roads waiting for a se4rvice van to change their spare wheels surely everyone should know how to do it?, in cars at least anyway.
I know someone that stopped for just such an incident. When he walked over and asked if she needed help, he got a whole load of abuse along the lines of “he only stopped as she was a woman, and she was perfectly capable of doing it herself” but with More zb’s in it!

No helping some people!
Then you have others that would lock themselves in the car and acuse you of trying to ■■■■ them or somthing. Sign of the times i guess!
Just out of curiosity…would you have stopped if it was a bloke changing the wheel?
I admit, there are plenty of dippy, useless looking females out there who stand next to their cars looking pathetic when they get a puncture, but there are men like that too, would you have stopped for them?
Ive only every had 3 punctures on my car, but each time I have changed the wheel myself, & no one bothered to stop for me.But saying that, when Ive broken down on my motorbike, generally other bikers will stop to ask if you are ok,& that was before Id even taken my lid off, so they didnt really know if I was male or female anyway.Ive stoped loads of times for other bikers & given them lifts when theyve broken down, irrespective of ■■■.
If anyone is ever good enough to come over & give me any help or advice, Id never dream of yelling abuse at them, Id always be really grateful of any help!

Coming back from a weekends racing in ■■■■■■■ on Sunday, race car on trailer, boxes of tools and spares in the back of the ■■■■■■ pick up,and my mate and I,came across a bloke on the hard shoulder where the M1 link road, meets the old M621,with a flat tyre on his boat trailer. My mate pulls over, and we run back to see what’s up.
What happens next would have made an F1 tyre changer proud.
We have the wheel off,and changed, with the aid of electric spanner and trolley jack, and everyone on their way, within a matter of,what seemed like seconds.
Result?
One happy ‘yachtsman.’
I have to say,I have stopped to help a woman on her own,as I see it,it could be my missus and kids there, but you have to be careful nowadays, with people crying wolf to the police.
Ken.
And no-one’s even mentioned hi-jacking yet.
Pretty woman, flat tyre, classic ruse.
I remember many years ago one of Plackett’s drivers stopped to help a woman on the M1 in the middle of the night and when she wrote a very nice letter of commendation and appreciation to the MD - he was sacked!
Salut, David.
