Hi, I’m 22 years old and I’m ex army and now I have a full time job with a supermarket, been there about 4 months. I have my ADR as well but getting experience on the road (was in the army for year and a bit got my licences and left, so no experience) but I really do love driving and I hear a lot of the guys moaning and I’m doing the same thing? I guess they don’t know a bad job lol. Don’t get me wrong the reversing is super tight sometimes but that’s all good experience in my eyes. I know most jobs want minimum 2 years so I’m lucky to be in this job and at such a young age but I think I’d like the idea of petrol tankers? Or even, if there is such a job nuclear waste? Not really about the money just the fact of the dangers, it would keep me on my toes and it’s interesting. What else can I work towards?? What’s job that everyone would love to be doing? Could I even take myself to America?? Any help is much appreciated. As the saying is, if you don’t ask you don’t get.do somthing with yourself other than driving,its crap money with crap hours.go learn somthing that will do you good.if you still dont settle then come to driving again.

Not being funny but I’m 22 and with overtime I’m pulling back 41kpa. In what way is that crap? And driving isn’t crap? Well for me anyway. I’m loving it. Iv already ready said that Iv tried a handful of jobs, army, plumbers mate, office work, house removals, electricians mate, labourer, I was even a manager at a bridal (wedding dress) manufacturer. Iv already stated that this is what I enjoy and I want to be the best I can be at what I enjoy. Not for money but for the pure fact of stepping up a career ladder, I see driving as a career. It’s not like someone can just walk in to a tankers job, you have to earn your way. So that is a career that so far I really am enjoying.
And guessing if you only did 1 year & a bit you did not get resettlement on leaving?

No mummy and daddy didn’t bail me out beacuse daddy is dead and mummy had cancer and It was my dream to join the army for a age I couldn’t remember. joined to help her pay bills as well because she was out of work. My mum died. I wanted to move away, so I put in a transfer to the raf. And why couldn’t I go away with the army? Because port ops are only based in Southampton and my best friend was in the raf. The army wouldn’t let me hope over to a different reg either because port ops are a specialised job so While I was transferring I thought I’d try out a few jobs, so what else I’d enjoy, it’s not what you know it’s who and how you put your self across. Since the rad made cut backs i wanted a long term job, something to set me up for life and seeing as I had all my licences why the hell not?! And as for did I leave because it got tough? I passed all my training you bellend. When you get to your unit (your actual job) it’s a piece of ■■■■, everyone is alright with each other. So now you understand why. Haven’t thought about this line of work before so that’s why I asked on here. Hope that clears it all up for you, PART TIMER. (And the money, just because you probably get ■■■■ doesn’t mean we all have to! Pay for what you get haha!)
