How about a driver in the RAF.Get to see the world.
As a MT trade, training for FLT and ADR and cargo handling which is good for a job on civvy street.
Or a movements trade to load cargo/passengers on all types of aircraft around the world.
Go in as a reservist, get paid for training at weekends.
If called up or mobilized, your civvy employer by law must keep your job if away for 6 to 9 months.
4624 Squadron at Raf Brize Norton are recruiting now for aircraftmen and women.
While training you get to go river rafting in the South of France.Ardeche valley gorge.
Skiing in Winter and hiking in Californua. You pay nothing for that. One lad on my course got his yacht skippers licence paid for.
I have a good few mates and a very close mate in raf and they are based out bride norton and it isn’t what it used to, it is a lot of dicking about and most of the decent lads have now been made redundant. Iv done army life, I’d like to stick to civvy street. And I’m not doing weekend warrior jobs lol.
So, you did a year and then got out! on what grounds medical or admin?

I was under 18 and wanted a transfer to the raf so just got my parents permission removed and then they have to let you go. Had to wait for 6 months before I could join the raf but in that time I got to use to civvy street so decided to stay out.
So ypu done your hgv before you joined the army?
No joined at 16 and done my all my licences paid by the army and paid for doing them.

Same as what I did then
I’ve just joined the TA and because of the new tarted up land rovers (wmik) you need a class c to drive them . Ive already got this so its a step in the right direction.
Theres another guy who hasn’t even got a car licence, they are putting him through that and his class c so it’s a good place to get them .
im hoping they will let me do my c+e but being cavalry im not sure theres much chance of it happening but who knows.
I’d love to get back into driving trucks but im a train driver now and the hours I work and the money I earn there really is no comparison. Saying that if I could get close I wouldn’t mind what hours I worked as always done shift work and to be honest id rather come home from work feeling like ive done something rather then sitting on my arse all day.

Isn’t that what lorry drivers do, but for less pay
Yeah I guess lol, depends what you’re doing.
When I was on agency I did a bit for jewsons and most of it was handball and to be honest I loved it, working out my own routes to drops etc, the freedom of being on my own you know.
Yes some of it was hard work but im not shy of a bit of graft and really enjoyed it.
Id love to do European, getting away seeing the world so to speak but without a class1 and any experience it would take years to get to that point.
I dont dislike my job, just not sure if its providing me with what I want.
yes it provides the money without a doubt but happiness■■?
Erm im not so sure.
Ita one of them jobs that once you’re in, its hard to get out.

Hi, I’m 22 years old and I’m ex army and now I have a full time job with a supermarket, been there about 4 months. I have my ADR as well but getting experience on the road (was in the army for year and a bit got my licences and left, so no experience) but I really do love driving and I hear a lot of the guys moaning and I’m doing the same thing? I guess they don’t know a bad job lol. Don’t get me wrong the reversing is super tight sometimes but that’s all good experience in my eyes. I know most jobs want minimum 2 years so I’m lucky to be in this job and at such a young age but I think I’d like the idea of petrol tankers? Or even, if there is such a job nuclear waste? Not really about the money just the fact of the dangers, it would keep me on my toes and it’s interesting. What else can I work towards?? What’s job that everyone would love to be doing? Could I even take myself to America?? Any help is much appreciated. As the saying is, if you don’t ask you don’t get.
do somthing with yourself other than driving, its crap money with crap hours.go learn somthing that will do you good.if you still dont settle then come to driving again.

You are young enough to go to college and get a ‘proper’ trade. Driving seems glamorous, but the reality of being stuck in your tenth long term traffic hold up that week, wondering if you are ever going to get home soon puts the kybosh on any dreamy thoughts folks have about driving.I would look at electrical or fitting work, as you’d be on 35K plus and be home every night.

“learn a trade now and you could be earning ■■■”
building services are my companies bread and butter and i know for a fact even the subbies don’t earn that. one of the most over saturated markets going is the building trade, my boss gets calls daily off people scratching round for work.
not to say it can’t be done but don’t expect to be on anything like that, especially if you’re an employee, closer to 25k than 35k. i know theres a company in london that pay their plumbers upwards of 60k but can’t remember the name. They did a documentary on them where everyones pay was disclosed some were on 80k!!
To be fair blokes on that were on 24 hour call including weekends so does somewhat limit your social life. Still good coin though.
Class2ldn:
Realistically what is the take home for tanker work per month?
One of our drivers left to go on tankers out of coryton starting salary was 47k pa working a 6 on 3 off shift pattern alternating between days and nights.
Thats what im on now for a 35 hour 4 day week. Get a 5 day long weekend every 3 weeks.

Not being funny but I’m 22 and with overtime I’m pulling back 41kpa. In what way is that crap? And driving isn’t crap? Well for me anyway. I’m loving it. Iv already ready said that Iv tried a handful of jobs, army, plumbers mate, office work, house removals, electricians mate, labourer, I was even a manager at a bridal (wedding dress) manufacturer. Iv already stated that this is what I enjoy and I want to be the best I can be at what I enjoy. Not for money but for the pure fact of stepping up a career ladder, I see driving as a career. It’s not like someone can just walk in to a tankers job, you have to earn your way. So that is a career that so far I really am enjoying.
I’m in Chelmsford too, your not working out of Aldi by any chance??
So what unit did you serve with
Your on 41k pa driving nothing adr, abnormal.imo your full of phiss but if you are please giveme a pm with what company your leaving and ill jump on your warm seat as soon as you leave action man

Dont kid yourself, driving lorries is not a career, its a job. Theres a huge difference between driving a lorry up and down a motorway pulling off to collect a couple of pallets, to managing a company where your expected to streamline processes and implement changes that have real effect on all your employees.
