meanqueen-lifeaftermoney.blogspo … -life.html
just stumbled across this, wonder if anyone knew her or drove with her?
she obviously knew what she was doing.
some of her tips to save money are pretty good,my fave is no spend days
That looks like Ilona Richards.
She did a lot too encourage women into the transport industry.
Met her once.
Strange really that there isnt one single negative comment posted about a truck driver.
Maybe the industry could learn something from Ilona, bets of luck in you retirement.
Just another woman driver…shouldda stayed home looking after the kids like all women should instead of trying to worm your way into a mans world, still at least your retired now, so thats another one who cant do anymore harm…
Negativity…who said it was dead…ha ha ha ha
Ok Jokes over…well done Llona…did the industry proud and achieved a lot…now sit back and relax and enjoy your retirement…thats what i should be doing…but…cant stay away from the ■■■■ things…so am only working 3 days a week…only thing i got to moan about is the fact you retired at 60…and thats discrimination…but ill let you off for that you deserved it.
good luck
I loved the saving money blog, she has started me off now. I remember most of her stories when she was driving and she often popped up in magazines. “Transport Related” you pervs!
Ilona’s name came up here not long ago in the proposed new Lady Truckers Club thread.
Aha, so you’ve found me then My blog stats tell me I have been sussed by someone on here, and now I have found you. Hi guys and gals. I see they are still squabbling over on the Lady Truck Drivers thread.
I was forced to give up driving in July 2008 when I had an operation. I had ten weeks off work to recover and when I was ready to go back to B & Q they announced they were closing the depot. So for the last few months of my working life I was a job seeker. When I hit 60 I rejoiced, freedom at last. I was a driver for 32 years, and proud of my achievements. Enjoy your life, I did then and I do now, there is life after trucking
Ilona Richards
Well, well, well, I’ve wondered many times what happened to you
I knew you when you were on for Leicester Heavy Haulage working with Colin May.
I lived at Tilton and took my class one, moved over to the Fen and managed 29.75 years driving before Arthritis forced me to give up and become a (dreaded/hated/despised ) DCPC Trainer
If that doesn’t jog your memory Ilona, I turned a National Carriers F86 over just a couple of weeks after passing my test on the M1/M69 roundabout at Leicester and became know as it’s THAT woman driver!
I never agreed with the idea of a Lady Truckers Club then and still don’t either now, but it’s good to hear you’re still around.
Pat
Hi Pat, I certainly remember Colin, it was him that first got me interested in LHH. I went with him as a mate when he moved a train engine, I was in heaven. After that I applied for a job there. Didn’t get one at first, then Brian Rodwell rang me and asked if I could do a couple of days, when he saw I could do the work he offered me the job. There was another female driver when I was there, she was called Grace, a Scottish girl.
I vaguely remember the publicity surrounding the lorry turning over incident.
I must catch up with a few people via this forum, bit busy at the mo, dogs to walk, Toodle pip.
ilona
I’m still in touch with Inez, Colin’s ex wife.
We were few and far between in those days and you more than most, doing LHH work.
