I was under the impression that the headboard lights had to be able to be turned off if there was any coloured writing on the panel, as with a light behind it, it could show a red light to the front.
But as mentioned, if a truck is legal in the UK it is legal in the EU and vice versa.
Woolworths had a driver fined for this and as a result the headboard switches in thier FM globetrotters were disconnected.

The square/triangle thing could well have been the reason for the long ago fine, but it would’ve had to be before Spain joined the EEC as the as long as it’s legal at home it’s legal anywhere has always applied, mind you right or wrong has never stopped foriegn plod in their quest for cold hard cash
