If you didn't drive for a living.....

Considering you still had to work and have naff all in the way of qualifications what else would you do for a living besides driving ?

I’m still young enough that I could try and change career paths. Having two young kids and a mortgage whilst doing these kinds of hours for a pittance don’t seem fulfilling.

I know there’s not a lot out there for unqualified people but surely there must be a decent work/life/wage balance elsewhere.

depending on where you are based,do what my brothers did, as I should have done, the railways,my eldest bruv is on the underground as a train operator on £52,000 per annum for about 7 hrs a day,my younger bruv is at St pancras station on £42,000 per annum, although he does around 12 hrs per day, like a hgv driver they started low and worked up to what they are on now,but wherever you are the average wage for a train operator is around £40,000 per year approx,i was told you start with a struggle on around £20,000 for the first year, then after training you are on what I stated,[again from what I was told]but does not hurt to check it out on the websites for these train companies, guess which mug became a hgv driver

I am studying to become a psychotherapist and hoping to begin full time education in september

London Underground have just run a big recruitment drive for night drivers,
£22,000 for working 2 nights a week (Friday&saturday)

I’d go into printing, and make Tshirt s to sell to stupid people.

With union jacks on saying we don’t need immigration but I would have to put disclaimer on back stating " I know this country was built on immigrants & also know we have asked immigrants to come here and do jobs we would not and still do. But I choose to ignore fact/history or reason as I am stupid"

Need to be a big Tshirt! I would sell a load of them on here!

That works out at just sort of £212 a shift, if my maths is right

(22000/(2*52))

Edit my maths would be right if i knew how many weeks in a year there was LOL
EDIT updated math, 52weeks not 56

I’d be a window cleaner

Car dealing.

Nothing shifty like three halves welded together, gearbox full of sawdust etc. Just good quality, low mileage German/Jaguar/Ford stuff with some manufacturers warranty still on it.

JLR track workers get £38k+ OT for 36 hours p/w. The only downside is working a 3 shift pattern.

If you have a job offline in rectification where its possible to work all the overtime available (think lorry driver hours) its possible to earn closer to £70k

Nothing shifty like three halves welded together … :open_mouth:

You sure about that?

Not exactly 3 halves welded together.I remember seeing A35 vans towing trailers ,that were cut down A35 vans just the load part. They did look a bit odd.

Whoooosh

I don’t, I’m a teacher, but one day… one day…

Just renewed my hv switching licence , SMSTS qualification , cscs card and first aid cert.
As I am not allowed to drive a truck I am going to be an HV electrical project manager on a site owned by network rail for the next 25 weeks. Coming out of retirement after near five years to help out a mate is a real culture shock though , however it pays a LOT better then driving…(which I would prefer to do )
