There is a “war” going on on the Bulgaria-Greek border for the last month. Greek farmers have been blocking the border check point for Bulgarian trucking companies to protest their new taxes since last year loans taken from EU. To answer the Greek protest which is holding Bulgarian haulage companies hostages BG hauler are staging counter protest by shutting down all 6 border check point for all vehicles. Last week there was complete shut down for 3 days.
People stranded at the border with no food, water or toilet, goods(meat, fruits etc.) rotting in truck etc.
Greek farmers decided to renew their protest, because of that Bulgarian trucking companies will stage another counter protest starting Monday 29.02, shutting down all BCCP.
If you plan to travel between BG and GR on something different then bicycle, don’t and postpone your trip.
muckles:
To be honest Dolph very few UK drivers get as far as Bulgaria these days, so probably pretty irrelevant here, but thanks for the info.
You are probably correct.
I’ve read some forum member(Brits) who live here, might be helpful for them if they don’t speak Bulgarian or don’t know where to look for info. Anyway its gonna be total mess at the border.
The issue seems to be that the EU has imposed impossible social security/pension contributions on the Greeks who can’t pass that back into the economy because of competition by other EU states that obviously aren’t subject to the same conditions. The obvious answer being for the Greeks to all walk away from the place and use the free movement rules to live elsewhere in the EU thereby avoiding all the zb that Merkel has piled onto them.
If you wanna drive to Greece you have to go via Sh italy and not Yugoslavia .
its too much
Bulgaria is not and never was part of Yugoslavia, and the old route through Yugoslavia is still open and unaffected by this dispute, though it goes through two non-EU countries which are also affected by the migration crisis.
