I did all mine at the same time but remember if you didn’t get everything at that time and went back to gain the missing parts, the date of expiration stays the same. If you only got a year left, do them all then…

Cheers.
Best price I’ve seen is 534£ for core, packages, 7 classes and tanks. Includes 28hrs cpc uploads. Inc vat. Not going to beat that am I?
Depends where you are in the country re pricing. Pretty sure Peter Smythe (from new drivers forum) does a 10% Trucknet discount but can’t remember exactly how much it cost me to do the course - was around the £500 ish marker. Obviously if you have to drive there then it might work out cheaper to do it more locally.
Cheers trev

Hi SMB,
The relevant date is the date that you passed the Core module.
Adding Tanks at a later date will leave your expiry date as it is.
As has been said, it’s best to think about this with some care because adding tanks to an ADR card with a shortish expiry date can work out a bit expensive when it come time to renew.
If you can stand to wait to add the Tanks module, it’s best to wait until you’re within the last year of expiry, because you’ll get the Tanks module PLUS the unexpired part ( = remaining validity) of your current ADR card will be added to your new 5yr entitlement.
If you can get your ducks in a row, just mention to the instructor that you are “refresher + additional” and bring your current card to the course with you on day #1.
It can be even more worthwhile if you can time the DCPC to your advantage.
My own ADR card is valid for 5yrs and 7mths.
Good Luck!!

That’s interesting dave.
I’ve never held adr but was just thinking of whether to include tanks or not. I don’t need tanks and don’t plan to for some time but need packages.
Are you saying I can leave out tanks but then do the module just before expiry and my adr would be valid for another 5 years just for the price of the tanks module? Sounds too good to be true??
Disregard. Just read up on it. Refresher also needed. Going to book lot. I need 28 hrs in 2 years so will full adr will do nicely.

Hi SMB,
Maybe not disregard…
If you don’t need tanks, it would probably be cheaper for you to do two other DCPC courses to get your other 14hrs DCPC once you’ve finished the ADR Core, Packs and seven Classes. Doing it this way means that you get 21hrs, then you’re (normally) free from the lunchtime on day #4.
This is going to depend on how the provider has timetabled their course…
Some do three days tuition, then have those exams in the morning of day #4, followed by the Tank module with the Tank module exam right at the end.
Doing it this way means that the Tank module is 2 X 3.5hr sessions (for DCPC) that are split between the afternoon of day #4 and the morning of day #5. (All perfectly legal and above board.)
Some providers do 4 days of tuition with the Tank module done in one 7hr session to suit DCPC, then finish off the Tanks module from the start until tea-break on day #5 (ADR requires this,) then have everybody come back to do all the exams in one go.
(All perfectly legal and above board.)
Depending on your need to get back to work in the week that you take your ADR course, it’s perfectly OK to do the Tanks module at any other time to suit yourself, and you’re not tied to the original training provider.
If you’re self-funding, I’d suggest you ask the right questions at the time you make comparisons between providers, then make the booking in the light of good knowledge.
Some pertinent questions for you to ask the providers that you compare…
- Is VAT included in the price?
- Is DCPC included in the price?
- Are the ADR exam fees included in the price?
- Which exam route do you use? (See below)
There are two exam routes that the provider (not you) can choose to use, that’s why you have to ask.
Core, Packs and seven Classes as separate exams will be £180 in SQA exam marking fees.
Core, Packs and seven Classes done by the common characteristics route will be £100 in SQA exam marking fees.
Both of these exam routes will get you exactly the same ADR card valid for Core, Packs and seven Classes.
The Tanks module exam (£20) is a bolt-on to either of the two exam routes.

Hi Dave a little question please.
I currently have just over 3 years remaining on my DCPC card. I have 7 hours towards my next from my C&E training. If I did ADR tomorrow I know the card is valid for 5 years from then but would the 28 hours (assuming booked the course right to get them) last until the end of the next 5 year DCPC card even if I didn’t renew my ADR? Not something I am planning at the minute but am just curious
Thanks

Yes mate, your line of thinking is spot-on correct.
DCPC and ADR only run alongside each other in the classroom for administrative purposes.
Equally, they can be done completely separately.
The two qualifications come from two separate awarding bodies… JAUPT for DCPC and SQA for ADR.
