Eight wheel double drive heavy tractor?
The fifth wheel will be higher than a normal unit won’t it? Dunno whether that’s relevant here though. Not a good excuse, whatever.

Probably. …not the best unload in the world
Dare someone to walk or cycle across what’s left. It’s looks rather perilous
It is sad for local folk though, that bridge was one of the oldest original cast iron ones still in existence in this area (possibly made by Butterley Ironworks from Ripley?) and has been a landmark for many years long after the railway closed in 1967. I must have been under it thousands of times, as Dan also will have. Several local historic items that have survived for a century or two have been destroyed in the past few years, the two hundred year old cast iron sough at Arkwrights original mill at Cromford was one casualty, either by overheight vehicles or traffic accidents, and they are irreplaceable.
Pete.
I may be up there later lifting concrete Lego blocks on to the trail if there’s time .

Every cloud has a silver lining eh Dan! Mr Gregory’s finest Lego still has its uses.

Bridge still in use as part of the high peak trail linking up with the tissington trail mainly for cyclists and walkers
^^^^^^^
best they just pull the rest of it down and let the farmers use the dead end roads as extra parking for their machines.
The bridge is lying flat on the road marked at 14’0. Am I the only one expecting a stobarts truck to try and go under it?
At least he’s putting the truck to good use and already loaded part of the bridge onto the trailer. Might want to turn it round however else that will be a very wide load.
Whatever it was carrying is certainly well made, doesn’t seem to have a dint on it.
Wonder how the phone call goes especially if the boss is just down the road. At least this makes writing an accident report worthwhile rather than “slightly dinted a panel on bottom right of unit”.
Looks like the county council at fault here ,apparently the road has been resurfaced 4 times making it 4 inches higher ,when the load got put back on the trailer it was measured and would of fitted under a 14 ft bridge .
May be mr phop knows a bit more ?
looks like he hit it at some speed. Even if he did measure the height, you would have thought he would have slowed down when he went under
Think he be signing on the dole today.
Surely all of us take it slow when we’re down to the last 6 inches of clearance

I don’t know why. It either goes under or it doesn’t. Going slow doesn’t change that.

Seriously?..
If the driver in this instance had been going slower if not crawling up to it and checking, it wouldn’t look like the Luftwaffe had just bombed it.
Anything approaching six inches of my height that I’m not familiar with, I’m slowing down for.
All I saying is if you know you are 13.6 and bridge is 14 foot then why slow down? Fair enough, if you are running at 14 foot then slowing down maybe wise.
Following a double decker on the donny bypass this morning on my way into work I noticed how close he looked to the bridge under j36. Looked less than a 6” gap at the top. Should he slow down to a crawl just in case?
I used the term…
‘I’m not familiar with’.
I also should have said with unfamiliar trailers ie; flats piled right up generator, digger, machinery equipment. Anything that isn’t standard as such.

Indeed. We pull 15’ trailers. Our yard can only be reached by going under a bridge marked 14’9"…
Yet to hit it, but you get rather blasè after a few months…

Think the boss might have heard the bang if his yard was just up the road If that had been me think I would leg it back to the yard and you wouldn’t see me and my car for dust

The yard was visible from the bridge, less that 200 yards. The new replacement bridge hasn’t been hit as yet!
