Idiots last night on foggy m6

The M6 / M62 around the Warrington /Wigan area last night was a real pea souper… I slowed down to about 25/30mph because i just could not see very far in front of me… BUT several other truckers with far superior eyesight just kept it on the limiter and flew past… I’m not worried about them, BUT I am worried that if I did have to stop , where are their mates who are still doing 56 behind me ■■? Don’t they have any brains… ■■?
If I could I would get them all in a classroom and ask them to picture all their family and friends standing at their graveside crying over the loss of a dad, grandad, husband, best mate, etc, after they have smashed into the back of a stationary truck and killed themselves.
NO JOB IS WORTH KILLING YOURSELF OR ANYBODY ELSE FOR.
RANT OVER.

They think they’re proper truckers…don’t give a ■■■■ about anyone…and you can’t tell them anything. Quite a few around on this forum… :grimacing:

Was the same on the M6 in places, I had it down to about 50 as I didn’t want to be going so slow for risk of someone smashing straight up the back of me, but there was still a few flying past.

Don’t worry about what is behind you, just what is in front of you. travel at a speed that YOU are comfortable with and what YOU think is SAFE :exclamation: :exclamation:

I was in that area last night, worst fog I had ever experienced. I too was travelling at about 30 which was plenty fast enough for the conditions.

Kind of a problem when my little 3.5 Tonner is wiped out by an Artic on the limiter though! Tbh up around J38-42 was where I found it bad in places. Amazes me how many don’t bother to use fog lights in the fog though, yet on a dry day they’ll all have them on!

I was doing 15mph on the A580. I was like the Pied Piper carving a safe route through the fog for the cars behind. I’m such a hero.

Kind of a problem when your “little” 3.5 tonner wipes out a “little” hatchback

I would say if you were in a small vehicle your far better off doing 30 being hit from behind by another vehilce doing say 50 (about 20mph faster) then doing 50 hitting a stationary vehicle coming to a very fast stop then having another vehicle (possibly an artic) hitting the back of you at 50 and being the meat in a sandwitch

When i did my CPC in 199, not the driver one the other one, there was a salty old sea dog type driver who refused to accept the adage FOG = Foot Off Gas. He insisted that in a truck you were more confident.

I went out in car at midnight down the m58 from skelmersdale as i was getting dad points from my son for getting him the new halo game upon its midnight release. I promised him when he got an outstanding report at school. Anyway… in the car i was doing 30. When i came off the motorway at kirkby i was down to 5mph in places. I couldnt see the kerb oor even the front of my own car. By far the worst fog ive ever seen in my life. Got the game after queing for an hour and after 5 drops around north london today im now parked up on the a50 and shattered for sleep. Anything for my son though haha

I was going across the A66 from the M6 about 22.00 last night. I’d been following a stobby lorry for a while and all I could focus on was his fog light which seemed to get brighter the longer I followed him! I was a safe distance behind, and to be fair, when I flashed him, he seemed to understand that I meant “I can see you, could you switch the fog off please?” because it then went off - and I had done the same for the lorry which caught up and was now following me. What surprised me more, was that later in the journey, I did the same for a car driver who caught me up, and when he overtook, he also switched his off until he was some way ahead :open_mouth: I thought car fog lights were on a three month timer once activated …

But for once, fog lights were actually required - not just the light drizzle which usually prompts full-on red dazzle and thinking everyone’s braking!
