My cab had to be used for a day delivery Friday so when I arrived for work Friday night I was sadly given a [zb] tip of a rental unit thanks to the idiot driver they had in.
On his attempt to couple up to the loaded trailer he completely missed the pin continued to reverse hitting the headboard!!! The damage was impressive he snapped one line conector ,damaged two electrics (one was abs), both side wind diflectors and the air box and piping and that was just the cab, the connectors on the trailer were also damaged, not sure but the trailer legs may also be bent!!
The best bit though was he got the 5th wheel stuck over the pin so took two forklifts and over an hour to free it.
So after all that the delivery was canx and the driver sent home. I can’t say who he was or the agency that sent him but will sarcastically thank him for ruining my weekend.
The sad thing is for what ever reason he did not check height ect…he will simply go away without a days pay leaving us to pick up cost of failed day and damage does this sort of thing happen elsewhere ■■ If I had done it would deffo been p45 time!!
My Cab■■?
Do you own it?
Then if not, it ain’t yours and if a substitute vehicle was provided by your employer to do the job that they pay you for, then live with it.
And remember, not all staff drivers are angels either when it comes to damaging vehicles.
Ken.
Send the repair bill to the agency you used, I’d also invoice them for the hire of the unit. If the replacement unit was a dog, send it back and hire one from another rental firm. Simples.

Sorry when I say my cab I mean normally only myself or my cover uses it, owned by the company I work for to be exact, more so I ment I treat my cab as a second home so annoyed to loose it through no fault of my own!
Yes it happens in our place quite often and it is usually (but not always) agency drivers doing the wrecking. We had a brand new DAF rental unit from Ryder almost written of 2 months ago. Agency man went off the M74 at Johnstonbridge, but not via the slip road. He decided for whatever reason, to go through a field instead. £50K to get it back on the road again.
If having to do a night run in a rental motor is your biggest concern in life, I genuinely wish I had your life…
“…Bloody agency drivers…”
It’s still going to be a ■■■■■■ if that’s your regular truck and you’ve got it all set up with all your gear in it, whether you own it or not, I can’t really see that there’s anything wrong in someone saying that?

2 forklifts …Geesh, it would take 4-5mins normally to free the pin if its overshot, providing you`ve still got air to move the unit.
Jack up the supension, wind down the legs, lower the suspension, pull forward 1-2ft, raise the suspension, wind the legs back to starting point, lower the suspension to put the legs back on the ground & pull out.
Honest guv, its not that I`ve missed the pin before

that is what Insurance is for!
We had a belter last week but this agency guy has been with us for years which makes his actions really odd. But he went out on friday night with a heavy load from bellshill to grangemouth but he choose to go via avongorge anyway he hit something, he did not stop to see what he hit but it caused a lot of damage to the n/s of a trailer. The alloy was bashed in which caused instant tyre failure, side impact bar bashed in, mudguard cracked, 3 curtain buckles rip off.
What is more scary?
He didn’t stop or he didn’t know what he hit or he drove from avon gorge to grangemouth with a heavy load with only 3 trailer wheels (2 axle trailer).
He told nobody, no accident form filled in. All he wrote on his trip sheet was he hit something on the A801 and he didn’t stop because of double white lines. Now like i say he was a regular and a nice guy to talk to but what happened that night was he drunk? Now if he had done it by the book stopped and reported it nothing would have been said he would just have been reassessed maybe he would have had to answer questions why he was off route. But because he just left the trailer in a mess and informed nobody, my boss went mental and really stuck the boot into the agency.

Annoying yes, but ‘ruining my weekend’?
Even if all his required gear is in the damaged truck, it would either have been still in the yard so he could get the required articles out of it for his shift, or the truck would have gone off for repairs and all his stuff would have been taken out anyway. He knew when he was handed the keys that he’d have a different motor. the suggestion is it’s only for one night, so where’s the real issue?
If something like this gets the blood boiling for a whole weekend, I’d suggest maybe his blood pressure, anxiety levels arn’t condusive to the streeses of modern driving.

You couldn’t wait to say that could you ? What a pointless post .
The truck i drive i refer to as "MY truck " … I dont own it but nor does my boss its leased , so in your opinion what should i say if asked ?
If asked what do you say ? Do you go into some long winded tripe as to who owns it ?
I ask because iv’e only been driving 26yrs and iv’e been making the same mistake since i started …

Well, yes, that’s probably a bit “drama queen”
In the interest of balance I’m currently on the agency. I’ve been in the same place for 3 months and have had a virtually brand new hired daf xf since my 3rd week there. It is in pristine condition, well it was until the guy who works for the company on nights missed the pin. The unit now has damage to the o/s deflector at the top and bottom and also to the panel just beyond that plus other damage…oh and there is only one driver who polishes and cleans it, and it’s not any of the company’s drivers. In fact it’s the only clean motor in a fleet of 18 fairly new trucks.
We need more of this sort of damage from poor quality licence holders agency or full time, expensive stuff but not necessarily worth adding another insurance claim for.
Employer is again reminded via his wallet that his good staff are the most important asset he has, and gives them good terms and conditions to retain them.
In this case agency should be sent the bill, their fault for employing a numpty.
I bet the fat arsed pillock was one of these look in the mirrors only clever dicks and just reversed till it went crunch.
Interesting priorities in this world. Smash into a cop car on the hard shoulder and it’s an accident and group hug for the poor driver. Drop a bollock coupling up and it’s send for the hangman
OP seriously get a life. [zb] happens get over it.

When I was at Hygena on agency, the employed day drivers used to think it was the night drivers jobs to wash the wagons and check the fluid levels. Once jumped in a wagon and had to put a gallon of oil in it. When I civilly asked the day driver if he’d checked the oil to see if there was a problem, I got a torrent of abuse. I remember jumping in one wagon one summer day where the regular driver wore clogs. The smell was so bad I was actually sick.
