Maybe not such a plank! The high winds were forecast so why take the risk? Employers should not send highsided vehicles out when the forecast is bad.
No load is worth risking human lives.
That argument is all well and good but I had a truck loaded with someones possesions who wants to move from Elgin to the New Forest. I spoke to my driver this morning who a) wants to get home after being away for nearly 2 weeks and b) doesn’t want to delay his client for any longer than he has to. I said to him that if he felt it was safe than carry on but if at any time he felt it unsafe then park it.
He made it safely if not slowly to Lymm and would have carried on further had the M6 not been shut. I trust his judgement and if he had said it was unsafe I wouldnt have questioned it.
I cant imagine the majority of trampers would have wanted to park up all day if all employers had your train of thought!
That is why a ban has to be implemented for all employers and drivers. Some employers are not capable of making the correct decision and some drivers are not capable either. No driver is capable of knowing when a sudden gust could hit him.
You will always get the clown that thinks he knows better.
I believe there was a driver today who ignored signs not to cross a bridge and got blown over.Says it all really.
Now what were you saying?
Despite what you might want it will never happen! How can you put limitations on something that is constantly moving in different degrees of force and virtually unpoliceable?
True, nobody knows when a sudden gust will hit them but common sense must be used! If someone crosses a bridge after ignoring signs to the contrary, thats not stupidity…its natural selection
What? Are you being serious? You are right it may not happen but if a ban was in place because of high winds I think the police might just notice a lorry in amongst all the cars!
And how do you use common sense as you are suddenly being blown over? Jeez…ignoring a sign is not stupidity in your book…Oh dear.
Oh dear, read the quote again…I am saying ignoring the sign is beyond stupity!!!
Your view is too simplistic, who would decide all of the factors such as the area, when it is enforced, when is it lifted so on and so forth, it simple is not feasible. In the meantime, common sense must prevail, surely you must agree with that?

Sorry but read it again and that is not what you said.
I am not sure who would decide but something needs to be done to stop this type of carnage.
I agree with common sense but the problem is a lot of people do not have any!

Ve no idea why anyone listens to that moronic show. Top tip, stick Radio 4 on instead, much more interesting and contains facts no sensationalism

Well there’s a new take on The Archers…
At Whine time, I tend to either be listening to a whole bundle of podcasts downloaded on the phone if I’m working (Podax on Android, car dock/charger via FM transmitter/3.5mm lead/Bluetooth depending on unit), or if I’m at home BBC 6 Music on t’internet.

I have nothing but radio 4 on all day at work. Its brilliant!
Agree with you 2 about Vine, Idiots are those that listen to him.
Though I will digress from Radio 4 all day, Unless there is a Test match on (long wave). 5live most off the time, or Podcasts from all over the BBC , including World service. Factual drama comedy sport all free. I was releived when my new truck turned up, and it has an auxillary port the same as the old one did.

I’ve got a digital walkman radio, that I plug into the radio aux port and listen to Radcliffe and Maconey and 4xtra from time to time, but the reception can be a bit dodgey sometimes.

I don’t believe that as no-one who lives in Elgin could afford to move to the New Forest, unless they are going to live in a shed ! Other way no probs …
ps. I live very near Elgin
