ICI AVONMOUTH

Hi All
My Dad, sadly no longer with us , used to drive for ICI out of Avonmouth. Has anyone got pictures of there fleet?. He drove an AEC mammoth Minor Chinese six, then went on to an ERF B series with R265l engines. His started life as a 4x2 but had an axle fitted to allow it to couple up to the older CO2 barrels.
Would love to see some images, spent as much time as I could going out with him. The drivers there knew how to have a good time and makes me chuckle the only thing left on the site is the slightly decrepit club house !

Cheers

Pete

I recall delivering two high pressure steel oval shapped tanks from North Eastern Marine at Wallsend to the ICI At Avonmouth, They were a special built thing , The steel was X.Rayed before they were made, & they were welded behind screens, When I loaded them they were painted with some special stuff & I was given some plastic like pads to put behind the ropes so as not to mark the paintwork, This was 1963, , Regards Larry.

The Chinese six combo is exactly the same as he often drove, his was on an L plate. Surprised that pictures are hard to find. I think it was a very good job, no sleeper cabs, nights out in B&Bs , full uniform, . I remember being smuggled in and out of places curled up in footwell or covered by jacket.
Went to places like Dungeness, which was a night out, and Sizwell, which was another night away. Happy days
