A few weeks ago I joined IAM as a free affiliate member as I was looking into cheaper car insurance. (There was a post about it)
Today I had an email from them about a free one day DCPC course. It was the first 20 places free and on a first come first served basis.
I got mine booked for 30th April at Bury St Edmunds. Only the JAUPT upload fee of £10.50 is to be paid.
There was 3 venues … Bury St Edmunds, Coventry and Aberdeen.
The thing is the email was hidden in my junk mail folder and only saw it whilst having my monthly clean out. So if you are an IAM member check your email in specific your junk mail folder!
I am also a member of the I.A.M. for younger drivers it makes a lot of sense to become a member. They offer good insurance deals as well as lots of other wee perks.Your driving and MPG just might improve as well.
If any one is interested they can get in touch with the Institute of Advanced Motorists via the web site. I passed the test about 17 years ago from memory I went out with an observer who passed on tips and brought me up to speed with their way of doing things. The handbook is similar to the police training book .A driver has nothing to lose and quite a bit to gain by going through the procedure.
I had to do a driver awareness course, half the day was in a classroom and half out on the road, the woman doing the course was an IAM member, from listening to her tips I managed to get from 45mpg on my first drive just driving like I normally do to getting 62mpg on my second drive by listening to her its a more boring drive TBH and not my cup of tea but if you want to save fuel then it would be a good idea to take a IAM course.
If anyone wants to know more about the IAM course and whats involved then please email me but to be honest most LGV drivers are already driving in the manner and style required to pass the advanced driving test

Hopefully this will not been seen as advertising because that is not the intention - simply for info purposes

What does this entail?
As Mr Monk says I joined IAM when I looked at getting insurance from Adelaide. Joining IAM cost me nothing as it was an offer for 1 years free membership!
