…something different than normal, Newbury carnival
And I got 2 crates of Stella out of it too
Good stuff. I pulled a flat bed around the Lymm May Queen carnival about 20 years ago…all I got was a burger and a couple of pints. Enjoyed the day though!

Good on ya Drive, love doing carnivals.
Yeah, await a debate about hours / tacho etc - I do carnival floats every year, it’s not working, it’s for charity, and I don’t get paid therefore it’s irrelevant. No different to driving your car on the weekend as far as I’m concerned, what I do unpaid in my free time is my business. And it’s never been questioned by the office either.
Isn’t there a lot of H&S/insurance with this nowadays? Always used to see a float done by local firms, I thought they were quite rare now.
Saw one in Bournemouth recently, a Gay Pride Parade. The driver of the Poole/Aberdeen motor (name escapes me at mo) looked a bit fed up, don’t know why - he had a party going on at the back!!

Some of the big firms no longer get involved due to someone sat in an office somewhere deciding it’s a major h&s risk mostly because they can’t be bothered, don’t want the hassle and quoting h&s is a simple cop-out. I find that smaller local firms are always willing to donate trucks / trailers and don’t even ask questions, they are happy to help the local community and appreciate the free advertising. The carnival I do takes out an insurance policy to cover any incident, but to date there’s never been one.

I did a few carnivals years ago when I worked for a small haulage company, they never had any issues supplying trucks to local organisations, the boss just saw it as art of being in the local community.
As for the H&S, the only thing we had to do on some of the last ones I did was to make sure there was a safety rail on the trailer, a couple of straps down each side seemed ok, and the for Norwich Lords Majors Processions we’d have a quick safety briefing by either an organiser or the Police, but all pretty relaxed.
I did one in the sixties when I was on for Park Row Transport. Drove around Woolwich, Greenwich etc and got sweet fa.
