I want to be a tramper... in a bulk tipper!

Sounds as if he’s still going then so that’s good news. I have known Terry since god was a boy, I remember when he bought his first new lorry, It was in the pub car park still in primer, he went up to Wollies got some paint and brushes, we had a few beers then a load of us went out and painted it 2 tone blue, it looked OK as well.

They seem a to give a good impression from what I’ve seen of them…

Try J and B haulage from Swindon; They get out on the Welsh borders for Tarmac (see Welsh border ops thread on old time forum). Google Barry Jefferies not sure where they’re from but they do a lot for us from Gloucestershire stone pits upto Oxford and occasionally help out our artic on the Stratford premix run from Coventry-same said of R Adams. Oh, and T Barry from South Cerney-they do a lot for Aggregate Industries…

J & B did have a yard in Hereford, not sure if they still have. Don’t know if it’s true but I was told a couple of months ago, that T C Barry South Cerney had had enough, and were finishing on the 17th. December, a couple of the drivers were taking there trucks on. I have no idea if this is true or not, sad if it is Terry’s been in the game a long time.

I saw some of their trucks around Kempsford-Ashton keynes Minety area during the week, unless they’ve not been repainted…

T barry have sold most of the motors, supposed to have about 6 left, using subbies to cover the rest of the work. They were advertising in commercial motor for subbies before christmas.

That would explain why I thought I’d seen one of their drivers in a plain white Renault Premium last week…A subbie from Carterton packed up too at Xmas; fed up just about breaking even…

J & B’s artic’s are still hauling out of the Tarmac quarries on the Welsh Border, also saw one of Terry Barry’s artic’s last week, but don’t know if he is running it,or as John (Altitude ) say’s it’s one of his old drivers.

Is Altitude Johns the only one with the silver stripe on the front? I saw several J&B wagons last week when running down the M4,but they seem to have varying liveries

John used to drive for them Nathan. They seem to run them in various colours these days.I would think most are bought second hand, saves the expense of painting them.

They used to be bright red and I think I read a few years ago, they got into trouble on maintenance issues?

They seem to be running some better kit these days,as you say quite a few were red, some are grey with a few white, could be subbie’s.

Got quite a few topmixers too, see a lot running out of Eysey Manor near Fairford

Weren’t they red with a silver band round them on the old sk mercs they once ran? They use to have 2025 mercs, so anything now would be an improvement!

Stennetts Transport from Bury St Edmonds do bulk haulage all over the country, also have quite a few subbies who haul for them, worth a try.

Had MAN units with yellow signwriting, when the report I was referring to was written and they used to run out of the former Sands and Gravels pit at Hatford…

Years ago they were all red and silver, they painted them in there workshops, they then decided that the lorry made the same money every week whatever colour it was, I can remember there being 25 to 30 all painted the same colour at one time, but they don’t seem to bother much now. As for the maintenance issues I don’t know about that one, when I left I had done almost 16 years there, and I never heard anything about them being in any kind trouble for that.

cheers

John.

Must’ve been best part of 10 years ago I read that John; The blokes at Hatford heard it too…I think it was in the legal reporting bit in Trucking mag…
AW Cleaver used to have a nice livery, but they’re all white now.

That’s about the time I left, and I never ran out of Hatfield for J & B so That’s how I missed it then. I’m always in there yard I’m in there this Thursday I’l ask them and see what they come up with.

cheers

John.

Think it was something to do with trailers John…
