I Take Back What I Said

was told never to run on limiter or cruise control in adverse weather conditions, was told it affects the traction control settings apparently

I was never TOLD this, but by doing night trunk on A9 in winter I learned it myself. Even in rigid.

Its a proper no excuses if you get stuck truck is’nt it WN  Tri drive, 80t metre crane & a huge winch its heaven sent for a cold December!!!

Winter driving is back to basics engine brake off, cruise control a complete no no, plenty of weght on the pin, light braking, just steady away & avoid all the other ■■■■■ who are using the road & you’ll be reet.

Ok Mr compaqny man No reason to get stuck right. Nice thing about live rolls and floats NO ■■■■ LANDING GEAR TO FREEZE UP IN WiNTER. Have your swamper hook up the cable and engage the winch.

The scania retarder plus engine break are so strong you can knife it just in the wet if you aren’t careful. Not using cruise makes sense in the snow as when you lose traction, it just thinks you are slowing down so will just pile more power on to get you back up to speed even if you are upside down in a ditch by then.

flat to the mat:
NEVER NEVER,I REPEAT NEVER use cruise when it’s slippery, fastest way into the ditch no matter what sort of vehicle you’re driving.Didn’t want to shout but this is rule number one.Drive at 10mph with cruise on and you’ll still be in trouble. Please do not use cruise .

+1

Although I agree about the CC speed limiter thing. This bit isn’t exactly true as the speedo works through the gearbox. If you spin out. it will just try and maintain the same speed.
Sorry to be a pedant and all that

Just talking to one of our drivers yesterday about the number of trucks jacknifing and saying they are obviously driving too fast for the conditions.

Coming up the A1 this morning I passed a jacknifed tipper just north of Leeming and thought theres another one, when about 5 minutes later, travelling at about 45mph on cruise with a very light load on, the drive axle kicked out left and the traction light came on at the same time. At this point I nearly soiled myself I must admit as I didnt expect it on a flat road, low speed with no other factors, such as braking or cornering. I managed to keep it straight. Needless to say, if there had have been a car or other vehicle obstructing my way, it would have been much different.

You live and learn.

I don’t think you should take back what you said. I think the logical conclusion should be that 45mph was too fast for the conditions of the road you were driving on.

Here you go, curryfart… Get the hand lotion and tissues ready…
