I really want a job to Europe. Help!

Hi all, Im looking for a job from West Yorkshire departing Mondays into Europe and back Friday night Saturday morning.

Im already in work at the mo trunking between Bradford & Edinburgh daily.

I have experience in Europe but only military, Would like to venture further south into Spain or Italy.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Grif.

You’re going to struggle finding a proper Euro job where you will be out on a Monday and back Friday/Saturday, realistically channel-hopping to Belgium/Lux etc is the only continental work which might give you that sort of working pattern. Plenty of euro work will leave the UK on a sunday for the monday morning boat, and running to Spain or especially Italy there’s a bloody good chance you’ll end up weekended somewhere because your load home is running late or you’re out of hours.

Euro jobs as a general rule don’t have fixed working patterns, so for the sort of work you seem to after you have to be flexible, cab-happy and not mind being out on the road for 10-20 days at a time.

Thanks FH what sort of money would I be looking at going away 10-20 days at a time??

Im no stranger to time away. Longest ive done in lorry was 7 months straight.

Cheers

Im open to options  Had to ask my question because you dont get if you dont ask.

well if you’re open to options maybe more members who are from your neck of the woods can suggest somewhere hiring.
if you want to do spain and italy AND be home on weekends try working for the irish :bulb:

You’d like to venture “into Spain or Italy” leaving “Monday & back Friday Night”!!

Give Nolans a shout!! but keep plenty of cash to one side to pay all the fines cos you can’t do Yorks to Spain & back Monday - Friday legaly.

Good luck.

Ross.

If you are away for a week or ten days, travelling doesn’t really come into it, still cheaper than living 10 miles from work and being home every night

At the moment I can walk to work 10 mins each way and I get 8.45 per hour straight through max hours no nights out, although I’ve just got in now at 1:45am so very unsociable. Am I onto a good thing or would Euro driving be better■■? Dont really know what a good wage is to be honest as ive been at both ends of the pay scale over the years.

If im out a week or fortnight travel wouldnt be an issue so would consider anywhere that was further south than my current location.

Cheers

That’s not too bad but not too great either.

You may struggle to beat that on euro work, the going rate for euro work I’ve found is about £500 a week in the bank (including nights out). I’m on a lot less than that but I only do 4 nights a week, nights trunking to france and germany.
You also have no experience so may find a long line in front of you as there are no shortage of euro drivers looking for greener pastures. There are some that will give you a break though, my 1st job after leaving the army was straight on euro work with no experience.
Good luck with your search.

p.s. try Brian Yeardley, they are in Featherstone Yorkshire.

That’s truck driving for you! I’m making a genuine observation here but I don’t think you know what you want really?

The plus points of your current job are as follows;

a) You’ve actually got a job

b) It’s 10 minutes from home so not too much petrol to pay for, could possibly even do without a car thereby keeping even more of your hard earned in your pocket.

c) It’s far from the lowest rate of pay you’ll find

d) Home every night even if it is late, don’t know what your domestic situation is but that might be a factor

e) Edit to add, your kids WILL miss you.

I see there’s quite a few posts this week about drivers who want euro work.
in reality some of these guys need to ask why they NEED a euro job?
the work is easier simply because it takes 2 or 3 days to get to your destination rather than tip and load every day in the UK, so if you were to be paid hourly the wages would be less. as has been posted above your kids will miss you as will your mrs which is not always easy for some families.
if you want to park up early everyday and not see the family for a couple of weeks then eurowork is for you,
if you want to pay the bills AND keep everyone happy keep your current job and look for better hourly rates elsewhere while you’ve got a job, if nothing turns up give europe a go

This is very often the case with ex servicemen and it drives my missis insane. Ive gone from a very active 10 year career working with some of the best people ive ever met and ever wil meet again to working on my own going up and down the same route 6 days a week.

Suppose im searching for my happy medium.
