Seen as how its your rest period ringing in for a start time interrupts said rest period, jus turn in for your normal start time if they dont contact u regards start time thats there fault. They lost a court case about this last yr cant believe quite believe people still put up with been messed about like that!!

Rest period? It should have been a simple call FFS. Nothing wrong with that

I must admit if driver are starting to have this attitude the job is well and truly [zb], jesus I could imagine in the 90’s telling an employer I aint calling as I am on rest and I am turning up at my normal start time (not that I ever had one).

how wet and molly coddled are modern truckers becoming where you cant make a 30 second phone call without having to restart your weekly rest.

I do agree with you mate to be honest, but on the other hand we did not make these ■■■■■■ stupid rules up, the faceless ‘they’ did, h&s, driver’s regs, dcpc to name a few.
So if we stuck to them all to the letter, and consequently bring down all the ■■■■ it would cause by doing so, it would show it all up to what most of us know what it all really is…total unadulterated gradeA ■■■■■■■■… :smiling_imp:

It is what is known as playing them at their own game. :bulb:

Auto boxes, air conditioning, cruise control, electric mirrors all contribute to a different breed of driver nowadays. In my breaks I have been known to clean my mirrors, dust off the dashboard, widdle up the wheel and even check load security.

Like most sane drivers, I am generally more interested in finish times, than start times. You know, the bit where you park up the blasted truck and go live your life actually doing things you want to.

don’t get me wrong rob I can be as militant as the next guy but refusing to call in after holiday (yes dozy as always got grief) isn’t exactly being asked to do the impossible, I don’t mind playing them at their own game and would have been saying call me when you have sorted it out as I aint a night driver.

I couldn’t be arsed with the grief and hassle for the sake of a quick phone call.

Nope, that is done for my own benefit…

Whilst my thoughts on calling clients on my own phone at my own expense are well documented on here, I have no problem ringing up an agency or employer, if it going to provide me with a full week’s work. :open_mouth:

Yeh and to be honest, in reality I would do the same.
I was just highlighting how we should deal with these sort of bloody stupid rules these tossers make up for us.

I agree with the principle rob and liberty I also think the same, my point is that whilst yes people will say ‘oh I clean my tank on break’ or I had to call the office when on rest and just class it as part and parcel of the job. others will see the quote and start refusing to call in on a daily/weekly rest. I pretty much text all my drivers as I don’t want to either distract them from driving or wake them up, they all know to just reply when awake/safe to do so.

I either text dispatch on a Friday afternoon or check my box when I get back. If no paperwork or reply I’ll turn in 730ish monday morning

to be honest I am fairly lucky as most of my companies plan the work a week in advance so there is very little need to text or call.

I misread the wink at the end there…

On a weekend I will ring in or he will ring me with indtructions for week beginning.
However when I park up at nights, my cab phone is knocked off …end of.
My reasoning is nothing to do with hours rules ( although I could use it as a valid reason if challenged) it is more to do with my opinion that if he is ringing me during my time off, it sure as hell won’t be to do me any favours.
If he rings my private phone in same hours, I ignore it for same reason.

The others that are too timid to do so get stitched up on a regular basis when called. :unamused:   which does amuse me, but they never learn.

I ask for a 6am start on a Friday (my first day) when I finish on a Tuesday.

Out of courtesy, I always called in on Thursday afternoon, to check it was still ok, and that my motor would be there for me.

But they kept moving the goalposts, 3, 4 or 5am, and when I got in there would still be a night man out in it, or my load wouldn’t be ready. I never once left the yard any earlier than I would have done if I’d turned in at 6. So now I just say I’ll see them Friday at 6, and that’s when I show up. And if my unit isn’t there, nine times out of ten, I sit and wait until it comes back, and do a manual entry. Would never answer my cab phone on a rest. I have called in occasionally, when something daft like me going into a reduced rest has been forced on me. IE, went over a 13 by a couple of mins, so may as well not bother taking 11 off to do a lateish run.

pardon my ignorance but WTF is tapatalk

wtf is concrete

the stuff sensible people put down instead of a lawn

left myself open to that one,lol

To be fair to poor old dozy, he’s tried to do the right thing and ends up with a muppet on the other end of the phone. I’d have had steam coming out of my arse as well.

Its not generally a problem but as Dozy has proven it is when they cant give u straight answer. so why should you waste your own time because of there incompetence?

Exactly, at last. :bulb:
The guy told him he wasn’t in at 6. He should have said ‘ok what’s your name’ and went out for a few pints instead of bothering his arse.
When they rang doze at 6 asking why he wasn’t there he should have said the bloke said I wasn’t to come in, knob get’s a bollocking dozy gets either a later start or another day off .
What’s the ■■■■ problem. :unamused: and why does he give a ■■■■.

In my experience, asking someone like this for their name, nearly always pulls them up short. It’s the same as the trolls who spew out vile stuff on unmoderated forums and twitter etc. So long as they are faceless they think they can say what they like. Make them identify themselves and they realise that they may be called to account.

I find this works in all kinds of situations: The twerp who can’t be bothered at an RDC; the FLT driver who won’t stack the load properly; the traffic clerk who blames you when he gives out impossible target times… I could go on but I am sure you get the idea.

Start times are relevant though. I usually start at 7 and most other drivers at my place whinge about that saying it’s too late and would rather come in at 4/5. But, when you start at 4 you have to be in bed at 8ish which I can’t be doing with.

I’m quite happy getting home at half 6/7ish and spending the evening chilling with the Mrs till she goes to bed at 11.

So can we say DOZY didnt get a start time for Monday and thats set in concrete…forget the Tuesday…
