Well I don’t have ADR or any tanker experience and I wouldn’t work for the overtime rate…absolutely shocking and a ■■■■ take.
I know…my thoughts exactly, this was posted on another networking forum I’m registered on… This was my response…
It’s not worth entering the transport industry for this wage!!! Especially considering the expenses involved for youngsters i.e. Cat. C+E licence acquisition circa. £3,500 (incl. Initial DCPC Mod. 2 + 4) - that’s if EVERYTHING is passed 1st time. ADR with tankers circa £600. DCPC 35 hours Periodic training circa £400…Digi tacho £38 (bargain). Very little funding available for any of this unless you are ex-military (who have most of the above anyway).
Then you can’t get a job UNLESS you have good experience, then you may get a start for £6.66 p/h. We are going to have some major problems in coming years. Any views on this? Would you enter the transport industry today, if you could have your time again?? Not me!!
Thats the Nobby ad from a few days in Essex…yep its [zb] but that what they will get someone desperate to work for…market forces at work in a recession !

if I had a C+E and a ADR to boot I would not get out of bed for anything less then £9.50 per hour but then again since I’m desperate ill just about take anything
A young person could get the basic hygiene certificate for doing an online course, this costs£20.00 and requires about 2 hours work. The new entrant would get into a kitchen and be trained by the firm sure its low wages ,but there can be tips to build up the wages.Or you can spend £3000 on training and no chance of a haulage job.A no brainer.
Problem is with 4 nights out a wk & say 15hrs overtime a wk that would be around 24/25k PA which will suit someone out there !! …that said £6.66 for the first 40hrs is a psh take.
Wages are shockingly low. I went for a interview with a large haulage company this week and the wage was £8 per hour straight through, no overtime and start times from 1am.

You’ve obviously never worked in a kitchen, because you’ve missed out the most important bit - waitresses!!

What some young supercharged bimbo doing a job to pay for her uni fees who thinks she is smarter than you and better than you and pockets most of the tips and has attitude by the truck full…give me the solitude and peace of the cab anyday.

Sitting on the fence whilst managing to fall off both sides!
