I know this is going to be divisive but

That pelmet looks ridiculous, that’s coming from a proud pelmet owner. Each to their own though and as long as you put everything back the way it was all is well.

Dumping it all in a heap on the bunk would make you an utter prick. I’m sure you wouldn’t do that though.

Would that make me a bigger prick than the one who wants to obscure the windscreen of the vehicle Im expected to drive? Im all for good manners and respect, but is the person leaving a vehicle with an obstructed screen view respecting the next driver, maybe me?
(Im not a total dip-stick, so would spend a bit of time replacing things as I found them. I wouldnt spend hours of my own time at it.)

If the habitual drivers are too lazy to leave a legal vehicle for the next driver, who are they to complain about others?

Yes, it would.

Doesn’t matter what you think of the stuff or the legality of it, it all belongs to someone else and leaving things the way you found them is the proper and respectful way to deal with things like this.

Of course take it down if you don’t like it, I would, it’s hideous, but everything would be back exactly as I found it.

Except any hobnobs or Haribo, finders keepers.

Edit: I’m assuming this is a truck used by someone who is in it all the time tramping and you are just doing 1 shift in it. If he’s a day man he needs to get a grip, if you’re in it for one shift and it’s his, it’s beyond rude to not leave it as it was.

I submit that it is beyond rude to give a driver a truck that is made illegal because of another drivers personal stuff, expect that driver to take away the illegal stuff and then to replace it again. Ill do the stuff the habitual driver should do and take the stuff out the window. I`ll try not to damage it in spite of him expecting me to get into a roadworthy condition, because of his failing to do so.

HobNobs? What HobNobs? All I found was an empty wrapper…

I think you need to unbunch your knickers with the whole ‘illegal’ pish. :unamused:

It’s a pelmet, not 5 kilos of Columbia’s finest. In the astoundingly unlikely event of being stopped you will be asked to remove it if the VOSA goon is being a goon. No fine, no jail sentence.

+1 ultimate reply there bud.
theres a few green eyed monsters lurking about in here.
if they were as completely ■■■■ as implied, then why wouldnt you go back into the office and refuse to drive it.
id rather have someones pride and joy whether i thought it was kakky tat or not than a basic fleet spec crapmobile anytime.

Illegal?
It is illegal. Whether it not you think it should be is irrelevant.
Highly unlikely to get any fine I’d agree.
But my point stands: where is the respect shown to the guy who comes in, and has to spend time removing this “stuff” so he can see the road and avoid a bent neck? The regular driver is showing no respect to the driver who has to drive the thing.

Wind catcher re hung, pelmets restored all is well in the cab of original driver. I even ironed his wife beater vest.

No pelmets were harmed in the process of this post.

You’ll never get through to the curtain twitchers who hide behind their ■■■■ looking half drawn tartan frilly curtains and low slung pelmets, the problem is that they think it looks cool, so they’ll happily sacrifice visibility and safety for the opportunity of being a “tang”.

Whatever the legality…… its a crap look and just reinforces the publics conception of lorry drivers as paedophiles and rapists.

how do you connect the above to frilly curtains please?

No frills in mine, I go for Stainless Steel decorations.

Wouldn’t remove anyone’s family photos, though I might affix some obscuring paper over them, dreamcatchers are moronic and hazardous.Don’t get me started on “cuddly” toys.

Saw one with loads of soft toys wedged between dash and screen. Demist capability must have been zero.
But if the condensation runs into the toys maybe it would be good for cultivating mushrooms?

If I took those flies down, would I be expected to put them back?

Hahaha, that was the reason I took the photo, you can’t use the wipers to get em off, that just smears them into a paste and you can’t see a thing. I had parked there for the night and that was my collection from the evening before.

any bridge or overhang can be seen in front of you as far away as that grass.
if you cant see it from that distance, then your visor restricts nothing the same as the tang spec scania in the opening pic.

Traffic lights can be difficult, but I just look at the reflection in the bonnet, much easier than craning my neck trying to peer under the visor [emoji41]

You don’t “need” to remove anything, it’s your own choice.

You haven’t clarified if you’re a day man doing a shift in a trampers motor or not. If you are then why should he take everything down for you for one shift?

You don’t like it, cool, take it down. Just have a bit of common decency to leave the place as you found it.

I don’t like pelmets or any “Sca-fanny” modifications for that matter, but I agree with the Blasé brokeback mountain extra on this one…

Back to post #30.
I will spend time getting things back how they were.
Yes. I’ll spend MY time putting your stuff back where it (doesn’t) belong.
And since you’ve reintroduced the topic of respect,I’ll go back to the question I asked then.
Where is the original driver showing respect to anyone else who has to crank their neck, or be distracted by obstructions on the windscreen. Where is the respect in expecting me to spend my time in getting a truck ready to use?
If I’ve got to use a truck to do 5minutes of shunting I’ll only move the seat to’n’fro. I know it’s a pain getting it right after some has altered everything. Seat will be fully adjusted for a longer run. I will change mirrors as that’s necessary and easy to reset.

Maybe we …sorry  , start again.
Maybe these guys aint as daft as you look mate.
The pelmets are ideal for covering those inward facing cameras :bulb:
You know the ones, those that are there for ‘‘Our protection’’ ( :unamused: yeh right) and the peek a boo curtains work wonders when some snouty ■■■■ copper in a tractor unit points his box brownie at you when you’re having a coffee.
As for visibility and safety, maybe I’ve (sorry there I go again)…
Maybe these guys have just been plain lucky for the last 30+ yrs, or maybe even they can see very well thanks, and are perfectly safe…who knows ?
So I’m told anyway.
Oh and btw, I don’t need a pelmet to look cool, I’ve got that situation boxed off already :sunglasses:
