I know this is going to be divisive but

toonsy:
Those frilly curtains hide the strong likelihood of a ■■■■■■ predator.

The dream catcher is there to catch the dream of never being caught.

I was at Screwifx in Stoke, parked waiting for a bay. In comes Scania man, V8, blinged, retarder constantly on for acoustic purposes :unamused: and… frilly curtains.

Goods in guy comes out to me and tells me a bay, asks why I’ve not got snazzy curtains like Scania man. I replied that it’s not 1970 anymore and they look ridiculous… he laughed, and agreed.

The 70’s were a great time, i didn’t have frilly curtains but stickers all around the windscreen and little flags , lots of em’, vertical, horizontal and diagonal  And in winter at least one light up Christmas tree.

And i have to sadly admit due to my sheltered life i don’t know what it’s like to look through a belly dancers knickers

Pelmets do my noodle in and I have to remove them (I always put them back.after) and likewise those deep sunvisors people on to Scanias. Drove one once where I had to drive with all the air dumped out of the seat just so I could see a decent view our of the windscreen. Ridiculous thing.

Imagine walking through a gateway on a cold and wet Novembers morning and getting a spiders web in your face. Yep, you now know what it’s like.

Always take this crap down and throw it on the bunk. You’ve every justifiable and legal reason to do so.

p.s. is that Booker’s yard at Didcot?

View to the Front and Windscreen Obstrucation Statement
This document provides general guidance and advice on the legislative requirements in Great Britain relating to obscured views from vehicles. Every effort has been made to ensure that it is factually correct but recipients should check with the producers of this document if they are unsure
about the validity of a particular regulation after the date of publication or if they have reason to believe any part is not correct or is now out of date.
General Requirements
Regulation 30 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (SI 1986 No. 1078
as amended) requires that:
(1) Every motor vehicle shall be so designed and constructed that the driver thereof while
controlling the vehicle can at all times have a full view of the road and traffic ahead of
the motor vehicle.
(2) Instead of complying with the requirement of paragraph (1) a vehicle may comply with Community Directive 77/649, 81/643, 88/366, 90/630 or, in the case of an agricultural motor vehicle, 79/1073.
(3) All glass or other transparent material fitted to a motor vehicle shall be maintained in such condition that it does not obscure the vision of the driver while the vehicle is
beingdriven on a road.
In practice, the annual test will check that items placed in or stuck to the windscreenor surface damage, cracks or discolouration in the windscreen do not seriously obscure the vision of the driver. In order to better define what maybe permissible the windscreen is divided into Zones:
Zone A is a vertical area 290mm wide, centred on the steering wheel and contained within the swept area of the windscreen (this area is 350mm wide on vehicles over 3.5 tonnes);
and
Zone B is the remainder of the swept area of the windscreen.
For simplicity, surface damage, cracks or discolouration, are simply referred to as damage.
In Zone A, a single damaged area shall be contained within a 10mm diameter circle. A combination of minor damage areas shall not seriously restrict the drivers view. Windscreen stickers, or other obstructions, shall not encroach more than 10mm.
In Zone B, a single damaged area shall be contained within a 40mm diameter circle. Windscreen stickers, or other obstructions, shall not encroach more than 40mm.
Windscreen repairs shall be assessed the same as unrepaired damage and shall not restrict the driver’s vision.
Cracks passing through the swept area of the windscreen and reaching two points at the edge shall be deemed torender the windscreen insecure.
Items placed in, or stuck to, the windscreen could be stickers, pennants, satellite navigation monitors or decorations.
Original vehicle design features and drivers aids, such as sun visors, are allowed.
Vehicles that do not comply with the above could be construed to be in contravention of the legislation.
Additionally, Regulation 100 of The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (SI 1986 No. 1078 as amended) requires a motor vehicle, and all its parts and accessories; the number of passengers carried, and the manner in which any passengers are carried in
or on a vehicle; and the weight, distribution, packing and adjustment of the load of a vehicle, to be at all times such that no danger is caused, or is likely to be caused, to any person in or on a vehicle or on a road.
Further to this,Section 40a of The Road Traffic Act 1988 (as amended by Section 8 of the Road Traffic Act 1991) Part II, Using a Vehicle in a Dangerous Condition, states that:
A person is guilty of an offence if he uses, or causes or permits another to use, a motor vehicle or trailer on the road when:
(a) the condition of the motor vehicle or trailer, or of its accessories or equipment, or
(b) the purpose for which it is used, or
(c) the number of passengers carried by it, or the manner in which they are carried, or
(d) the weight, position or distribution of its load, or the manner in which it is secured,
is such that the use of the motor vehicle or trailer involves a danger of injury to any person.

A long time ago,we nightmen used to load trucks for the day men one of whom had wobbling plastic hands on lolly sticks all around the 4 edges of the windscreen. How he drove with them I have no idea.I used to rip them out and stick them in the glove box.He wasn’t a happy chappy and waited for me to clock on next night.Being big and brusque can help to deflect criticism, though.

That pelmet looks ridiculous, that’s coming from a proud pelmet owner. Each to their own though and as long as you put everything back the way it was all is well.

Dumping it all in a heap on the bunk would make you an utter prick. I’m sure you wouldn’t do that though.

Nope. Prize for first person to get it

Would that make me a bigger prick than the one who wants to obscure the windscreen of the vehicle Im expected to drive? Im all for good manners and respect, but is the person leaving a vehicle with an obstructed screen view respecting the next driver, maybe me?
(Im not a total dip-stick, so would spend a bit of time replacing things as I found them. I wouldnt spend hours of my own time at it.)

If the habitual drivers are too lazy to leave a legal vehicle for the next driver, who are they to complain about others?

Yes it’s bleedin dangerous because it’s difficult enough to see the antics of every nutter on the road ahead in time to stop or avoid them even without all that lot getting in the way.

Having got that out of the way more detail required concerning the belly dancer bearing in mind it can’t be the naked bird left in the window because she’s way too thin for it. :smiling_imp:

lol, at a company I worked at 10 years ago, there was a driver who not only used to take everything out of the windscreen and dump it on the bunk, but he’d also take stuff down that wasn’t in the windscreen. I was by his door talking to him once and I saw him rip down a picture of some driver’s kids that was stuck on the overhead locker and lob it on the bunk with every other trinket. I couldn’t help laughing in astonishment.

If I was the trucks ‘owner’ I wouldn’t have left the pictures in anyway. Would feel weird having some other bloke driving round looking at your personal family photos.

Soon take all that ■■■■ down if he was multi dropping in London lol

Yes, it would.

Doesn’t matter what you think of the stuff or the legality of it, it all belongs to someone else and leaving things the way you found them is the proper and respectful way to deal with things like this.

Of course take it down if you don’t like it, I would, it’s hideous, but everything would be back exactly as I found it.

Except any hobnobs or Haribo, finders keepers.

Edit: I’m assuming this is a truck used by someone who is in it all the time tramping and you are just doing 1 shift in it. If he’s a day man he needs to get a grip, if you’re in it for one shift and it’s his, it’s beyond rude to not leave it as it was.

I submit that it is beyond rude to give a driver a truck that is made illegal because of another drivers personal stuff, expect that driver to take away the illegal stuff and then to replace it again. Ill do the stuff the habitual driver should do and take the stuff out the window. I`ll try not to damage it in spite of him expecting me to get into a roadworthy condition, because of his failing to do so.

HobNobs? What HobNobs? All I found was an empty wrapper…

I was given this 17 plate this week after I’d cleaned up the 07 I was originally given when I started here a month ago. It was a bit rough inside, I’ve been tidying it up. I wonder if a tee total driver would object to driving it on the grounds I have Hook Norton brewery bar towels in the cab?

mqhlLieSDeGbJtWcZdUDjdg.jpgI have to agree with Carryfast on this one, a belly dancer needs a belly

If one of those guys hits me, photo every angle so insurance can see his vision was impaired, just like using a phone , should be made illegal ( oh i think it is cos its within the sweep of wiper blades). dohh. keep your truck nice an clean but why spend loads of your families money on it.
