I have a genuine question

Is there a truck worse to drive, than a Volvo FL6 180 ■■?

Yes. Try a 62 plate Isuzu forward 7.5t with the worlds worst cab, seat, steering (more play than Gary glitter in a primary school) and the most pointless and useless auto box going…

The only plus to that truck is a 190bhp engine. Very over powered for a 7.5t truck.

Ahh good point, i had forgot about those Mitsubshi canter’s/izuzu NQR’s etc.

Though that said i still prefer them to the FL6.

We have just had 2 delivered. Unfortunately I have to drive one for the next few days as my DAF 18t gearbox decided to give up the go today…

Bad back ahoy…

I personally thought the FL6 was a decent enough truck. I liked driving them.

+1 except mine is an 11 plate Canter manual which doesn’t have air brakes, just standard car brakes, and a smaller engine (I think). Pile of ■■■.

Anything with iveco on the front is usually crap.

Or an Axor 420 on gas and detuned lol…

Yes, The Volvo FL4 TD40, they were so gutless and smoked like a chimney, from new. They could only carry about 2.8 tons

Daf 45.

Drove these more often than anything else. J reg and P reg with the 130hp engine, and an N reg and 2 different W reg motors with the 150hp engine. I hated the sparseness of the dashboard, and the fact the top of the doors flap about when you are going over 50mph. Also hate that you can always hear one before you see them. The J reg didn’t have seat belts either, and it just happened to be the one that I managed to have an accident in causing the Hammersmith Bypass to be closed for 3 hours, during home time on a Friday evening while there was a tube strike on.

I liked Iveco Cargo’s. I loved the dash layout and that it was the only 7.5 tonner (I drove) with an exhaust brake.

MAN 8.163’s are quite nice. Although having to lean forward to put it into first, third and fifth was a pain in the arse. But quite nippy when empty.

The only other 7.5 ton vehicle I drove was a Renault. Was new in 06. I loved it. But only had it a week, as it was a rental motor while my MAN was being refitted. Air seat, heated seat, night heater, easy to reach controls, cruise control, brilliant mirrors, electric windows. Felt underpowered when loaded though. I nearly cried when I got back in the MAN.

I had the misfortune to get lumbered with a Mitsubishi Fighter while my regular motor was in dock… what a ride. Bounced more than Diana Dors on a trampoline, wouldn’t pull the skin off a rice pudding and gave me more backache than the Scania. Sooner go back to a TK Bedford.

Going by my experience with a Eurocargo last week, I agree wholeheartedly.

Leave 'em alone… I liked mine !!

HINO…

We had a fl6 180 plus trailer doing Europe up until 2011, had a few weekends away in it, it was limited to 60mph which was the only plus point…LOL

I thought you said this was a genuine question.people have done millions
of miles all over the world in a fl.6 and been happy. is it you who feels to
good to drive one ■■?
John

I take it Brad’s never had the pleasure of an ex-WD Bedford “O” model then?

I cant comment on anything new-ish as ive not much experaince on newer motors apart from my 2629 Axor shed but from the good ole days, a 7.5 Leyland Terrier took some beating in the junk stakes, drum brakes all round that put you through the screen when cold was one such problem i remember with them. Renault Midliner was another horror IIRC. Dodge 50 series must have been one of the worst van type motors surely!!

Oh dear dont know what the original poster would have thought of a 50s Foden 8 wheeler no Power steering,
no adjustment on the seat,I could go on but!!!. Kid you dont know your born. Eddie.

No not at all. I drove one for 4 years whilst I was on the recovery work. I didn’t feel too good to drive it, but I wished to high heaven the boss would buy something a little better to drive.
