I did the right thing

Going into a roundabout (no traffic light for me), I did as you do - check/wait for incoming traffic on the right, quick scan on the road(s) feeding into the roundabout, mirrors, check right again - all clear, GO! Well I’m starting from a steep hill so it takes a while (making a right turn around the roundabout, it’s 2 lanes so I’m going for the right one) and I see a car speeding on my right - probably 50mph or more as he has a green light on his own entry into the r/bout, as I’m pulling my trailer along…He has to slow down (stop) and flashes me repeatedly, then proceeds to undertake, HONK (as I expected so I already had my palm resting on MY horn…) and pull in front of me in a half arsed brake check attempt so I did the right thing - pressed my own horn and held and held it…To his misfortune the next light (inside the roundabout) was red so he had to stop with me 6ft behind and my horn still going. The whole thing lasted about 15 seconds until he took the exit before mine.

Always do the right thing.

Actually, IMHO the right thing would be hold ones hand up to acknowledge the slowness of your vehicle and the fact that you had made him alter speed or direction then let him get on with whatever he’s going to do and get on with your day. Already anticipating a lean on the horn at him to no effect whatsoever moment is a fast track to a stress heart attack :unamused:

This is precisely what I was going to do had he not honked and flashed at me to express his own annoyance over not being able to buzz through at 50 mph

Not if you class yourself as a professional you didn’t.
By holding your horn on you acted aggressively
and you obviously got annoyed thinking you were correct and he was wrong.
Better to ignore these situations act professionally and let it go.

In some states of america, if you are speeding you are deemed to give up any right of way that you would otherwise be entitled to. It’s an interesting concept.

Sometimes I just pull out but it’s OK because I’ve already got my hand up to apologise when in reality I couldn’t care less

The snake has spoken so you know what to do next time
DO IT THE SNAKES WAY OK

The car should have given way to traffic already on the roundabout. As you were moving and your exit was clear, there is no issue with your action. When the car overtakes / undertakes, take evasive action if necessary but don’t blow the horn as the horn is there to make road users aware you are there, not to show anger. The road user was aware you were there, but clearly shouldn’t be on the road given the standard of driving being displayed.

In the end, probably better to have this road user in front of you where you can see him/her to be honest. Once episode is over, simply carry on and hope not to come across any other fools today.

Oh, and pity the fool of course…

Just another day at the office

Wait… there are lights on the entry to the roundabout but not your entry, and lights ON the roundabout?

Which roundabout?

I never understand this mentality of beeping someone just because they beeped at you… It only results in a reaction like brake checking. Be professional don’t do it!

There is one in East Kilbride like that.

J13 on the A42, there are at least 2 roads feeding in that don’t have lights, the rest do and the roundabout itself is sectioned with ats

He is right, I did absolutely not act in a professional manner in this particular situation and you know what? IT FELT GREAT! I didn’t endanger anyone, I ■■■■■■ the guy off (I hope) to no extent. I imagined him getting to work and telling his mates about that little incident, then being ■■■■■■ off throughout the day then finally going home to complain to his wife about that wonker of a truck driver :stuck_out_tongue: What made it all the better was all the time this was happening I was (very unprofessionally) chomping on a godly delicious Lindor bar I’d just bought from the services. I hadn’t had any chocolate or sweets in months, maybe that got me triggered?

Like an overload of E numbers? Sugar rush?

Us humans are strange creatures at times.
One situation will really upset one but not another.
I’m sure a person’s personality shows up in their driving from time to time.

As you say ETS, no harm done and good for you to own up. It’s extremely difficult to stay professional day in day out especially with some of the morons out there.
In my younger days I was out the cab a few times but I wouldn’t dream of it now. One benefit of being older is you seem to mellow with age. Or at least I have.

Cars blasting their horns at me annoys the ■■■■ out of me, but the way I see it is if you resort to acting like them,.as a pro you just make a 2hat of yourself,.especially to fellow pro.s round about you…blasting your horn for 5 mins? Seriously ? :open_mouth: :unamused:
In that situation do one of 2 things, pull him out of his car (not advisable btw) or rise above it and do nothing except call him a ■■■■ under your breath

Tbf to you you’ve admitted it was a bit daft, but the way we react separates ‘‘us’’ from
‘‘them’’. I reckon.
Mind you, after saying that I’m as guilty as the rest of us of over reacting to situations in the past,.and not putting myself in a good light in the heat of the moment.

I bet he then went on his forum group and relayed the whole incident again a few hours later because he was so wound up about it. Or was that you■■? :smiling_imp:

Don’t get stressed out by these idiots - you’re in a big vehicle. As long as the collision is at a low speed, you should be fine the great majority of the time, but their car will fold like paper. At least you can keep that in mind if they do something dumb and end up buried under the trailer.

I see what you mean regarding the layout. The guy just had an attitude problem.
