I did it... A Job!

Today… exactly 4 weeks to the day from passing my Class 2 I was offered a position with a National Haulier.

I sat with the phone book and emailed CVs to every truck operator in the area, I applied for every class 2 job advertised, and marched round agencies, even offering to meet some of the premium increase for a new pass.

Then last week It all paid off, I was called in for an interview, then had an assessment drive today and an offer of employment immediatly after. I am utterly over the moon!!!

I am being puppy walked for the first few weeks, which to be quite honest, I will be happy to welcome the knowledge and advice of experienced drivers before being set on a contract using a little 11t truck (with a 26t scania once a week). Its not agency and its full time employment.

The boss said it was evident from my CV that driving was in my blood and that even tho I was a new pass and came from an office based managerial backround, I wasnt just a guy who wanted to drive a truck, but a guy who wanted to be a truck driver; and in his view there was a very big difference. Despite being soaking wet behind the ears he was confident if I kept my nose clean I would do well.

so guys… dont give up hope, you can really do it if you put the leg work and the effort in.

Well done. Remember all your training. Enjoy it.

The first time you are out on your own will be strange but you’ll have a great big smile on your face when you realise there is no instructor / examiner telling you where they want you to go.

Very well done! Really good news.

Pete

Congrats on the job! I’m hoping to get the same news later about a Class 2 job - strangely enough it’s exactly four weeks since I passed too!

Sounds like we’re in a similar position in that we’ve both come from office jobs but WANT to drive rather than just doing it as there’s nothing else to do. I highlight this in my CV and cover letter, so hoping it pays off. Good luck!

Well done on your new job
It’s a great feeling when you get given the opportunity to ‘prove’ yourself worthy of employment by a company, good luck & happy trucking
