A big mining dumper truck slow this guys journey, did he not think that the big dumper is used to build a road that he drives on.
unfotunately this is one of the many knobs that tend to be on pistonheads lately, which is one of the reasons i`m not on alot lately.

Shouldn’t be moving them on a bank holiday if you ask me.Why do you say that??
Because the roads are extremely busy on a bank holiday, busier than at any other time of the year, simples. It’s not in the greater public interest to cause a delay at such a busy time.
I appreciate they can’t move abnormal loads at night by law but they shouldn’t be moving them on a bank holiday in my opinion and all this defending of everything & anything “truck” related is a bit overkill. I’m all for normal trucks running whenever they like, I think the weekend non fridge artic ban in France and other parts of Europe is a bit ott.
They can move at night in this country but it can cause problems. Firstly try stopping for a break. Also it makes loading unloading difficult to schedule as this would normally be done in daylight hours. Not to mention the penchant of late for night time lane closures and roadworks. The Eriks make us run nights and operationally it’s a pain in the arse to schedule and [zb] for the drivers to have to flip short day shift to long night shift to meet the times

Soon, we will all be banned from running on a Sunday/bank holiday as per most on mainland Europe.
Sooner the better.
I hope not, I have a very easy run on a Sunday.
Have you considered what TM’s will be expecting, if that ever comes in ?
The norm for a lot of European drivers is, in the yard on a Sunday evening ready to go as soon as the ban lifts. So Sunday is a day of rest all right, bed rest with the curtains drawn trying to get some sleep so you can run all night
I came up behind a two lane blocking load of dumper couple of years ago on the m6 near Leigh delamere. Absolute disaster! First I had to turn off the cruise control, then after about 20 mins at 50 kph I actually had to, and you might not believe this, I had to put on the indicator, move to the 3rd lane and put back on the cruise control. Ive never felt so stressed in my life. It made me miss my train in calais and i had to have a snooze while waiting for the next one.
I’ll never forget it. It was up there with the time that tunnel caught fire just as I was leaving it…
Oh, I thought it was illegal to move abnormal loads at night due to visibility and the like.
Still think the guy on piston heads has a fair point, don’t move them on bank holidays any other time is fine.

So who is responsible the haulage company or the authorities for granting the stgo order?
If cadzow don’t move it because of “bank holiday conscious” sure as night as day another company will.
They are most likely those terex trucks you see heeding down the m74 on a Friday afternoon, I bet best practice is to move them at weekends when there are less lorries on the roads.

If my memory serves me correctly all abnormal loads are moved at night in germany, works for them. Its also worth noting most engineering work[except long term]on the railways is done at holiday time.
regards dave.
I used to see very long trailers that carried the stalks for the wind turbines in Spain, they would build a road to get the lorries up the mountains, and also trucks with the propellers,it was quite a sight, loads of Guardia Civil bike cops blocking off junctions and roundabouts.
Then later all parked up having a Coffee Cognac and a cigar.
I’ve delivered the roads up into the hills of Scotland. I loaded them in Germany.
I overtook two of these Cadzows about noon today s/b M74. They too were taking up two lanes, it was bloody outrageous, I reckon it put about 8 seconds on my journey! I tell you, it’s a liberty!
