I have just started a new job and have been out with a regular driver so he could show me the ropes. I went out on my own today and was 2 HOURS slower than him on the same route. It was a multi drop route and I knew where all the drops were.
I can’ t understand why I am so much slower.
Demoralised or what.
it aint a race mate. so long as all the drops are completed and you haven’t smacked the truck up i wouldn’t worry

You got the truck back in one piece. No customer complaints. Don’t worry.
It probably took you longer at the drops to get the gear off, reload empties etc. You get quicker with that side of the job in time.
Bound to happen on a multi drop if someones a regular.
The regular knows who to see/phone, what bays or where to park lorry, and what goes where, they know him, security know him well etc etc.
10 drops, 10 mins saved on average at each one there’s your two hours.
Don’t worry about it, every day you do it the job will get easier and quicker and you’ll shave those two hours off, then one day everything will go wrong and it’ll take you three hours longer.

as said you’ll soon shave them 2 hours off just don’t let em see that your doing it too quick or you’ll soon be getting a few extra drops to do…
Perhaps he was quicker than you because you were helping him?
That’s what I’d say if anyone queried the times with me, anyway.
Dont worry, I started my multi drop run on my own (after buddying up for a couple of weeks)
Took me ages to get through it, but now I can do what was a 12 hour shift at the start down to a 9 hour shift you just get quicker as has been said 10 mins here 15 mins saved there youll be golden
Keep at it
A bit of GOOD advice from somebody that has done a bit
…Never try and compete with the teararsing superstars, whatever they do is irrelevant to you … and they will eventually either ■■■■ up, or burn themselves out…fact! Also the more you try and compete with these toss pots, the more the boss will want from you
if it is anything like the outfit that I work for at the moment.
Set your own pace and at the same time do the job safely legally and efficiently (if on multi drop work it is easy to make a balls up if rushed, such as wrong stuff at wrong point resulting in having to go back to each wrong delivery and rectify) if you work this way in a professional manner your boss can not complain, and if he does the problem is with him not you, as one “proper driver” is worth 10 dickwhits that have not enough time to stop for a ■■■■ as they try and make a name for themselves.

I’ll + this one too.
We got a lad that does the usual run in 6.5 hours we take 8 to 8.5 hrs and that’s not taking the P either just not rushing
You’ve just started the job so it’s expected you’ll take longer than an experienced driver. Don’t fret!
Every one is slow on a new run/job more you do it the faster you will get!
just to say +1 to all of the above,
Took me a while to chillax about not being able to do runs as quick as regulars, when I started I used to reckon I was never knowingly given the same run/shift twice Nowadays I know that the first shift on a new run or at a new customer is going to be a slog and just roll with it.
There was me thinking the longer the job takes the more £££ in the bank…

^^ This
2 people are always going to be quicker than 1, even if it’s just opening 1/2 the buckles, doing the paperwork whilst the other drives or whatever.
Few mins here, few mins there, 2 hrs is nothing really
Its a marathon ,not a sprint. You will learn short cuts in time and a certain amount of economy of effort.DO NOT RUSH.
As long as you’re not tempted to tip whilst on break to get your time down - because that’s illegal, eh

Don’t worry,my boy gets this every time he’s on a new job.
Turns out the regular drivers, although they know the job better, some do fly around, and some either tip on breaks or take no breaks.
I always say,as long as you get all the drops off, don’t pick up any more speeding points and get the truck back in one piece, that’s what matters!
